Jacob (Yasha) Katzenberg was a legendary narcotics trafficker between the wars. He is best known as a leading figure in the 1930s junk ring whose final exposure earned Lepke Buchalter a 14-year prison sentence in 1939. Katzenberg turned states' evidence, and his testimony was intrumental in putting Lepke away. Despite his importance, up to this time nobody has found a photograph of Yasha. An alleged photo of him passing around the internet is actually of Jack Zuta, the vice lord of the Chicago Northside gang. Well, here is Yasha at last, from a 1939 edition of the Oakland Tribune.
