Mario Serpa, boss of the historic band of the same name from Paola, died in unknown circumstances at the Parma prison. He was 69 years old.

Mario Serpa had been detained since 1983 because he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He was then able to obtain the first benefits and in 2006 the semi-liberty to be able to work, then revoked after the most recent anti-mafia investigation "Tela del Ragno". In 2012 he was in fact accused of having reconstituted the paolano clan.

The criminal takeover of Mario Serpa, who died in detention, began after the killing of his father for a transversal revenge in 1979. At the time he was 26 years old. His gang killed dozens of people in those terrible 1980s, including innocents who refused to pay the bribe. For those crimes, Serpa paid the bill with justice.
