Limburgers coordinated cocaine gang
An Italian group from Genk is suspected of controlling cocaine transport on a large scale. In an extensive international drug investigation, four arrests were made in Genk on Tuesday. Those involved are said to have set up a cocaine trade and may have had ties to the 'Ndrangheta mafia. That is what De Standaard and Het Belang van Limburg write today. The Limburg public prosecutor's office cannot comment for the time being.

The searches and arrests are directly related to the large-scale action coordinated by the federal prosecutor a few weeks ago in the Albanian environment. That organization imported large consignments of cocaine via the port of Antwerp, but was also active in Rotterdam, Le Havre and Hamburg. The containers with cocaine from South America arrived in Antwerp. The cocaine was then spread further in Europe via cars with hidden spaces, private planes and boats.

The drugs ended up with other criminal gangs in Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy. In the investigation in Italy links were made with the mafia. The arrests of last Tuesday in Genk would fit in that context.
