AMERICAN PASTORAL (2016)

In this skillful adaptation of a Philip Roth novel, Swede Levov (Ewan McGregor, who also directed) has lead a charmed life as a star high school athlete, WWII Marine officer, operator of a successful NJ glove factory with a trophy Miss New Jersey wife Dawn (Jennifer Connelly) and a big spread in the 'burbs. But his beloved, stuttering daughter (Dakota Fanning) turns into a parent-hating Sixties radical who bombs the local gas station/post office, killing the proprietor. She goes on the lam, and Swede goes through hell trying to find her. Fanning is excellent, as is Peter Riegart as Swede's father. A tragic, well-done movie.
