‘Rico de Chilean’ gets 11 years for liquidations

Richard R., 47, aka ‘Rico de Chilean’, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The judge has determined this in the extra-secure court at Schiphol.

R. was found guilty of leading a criminal organization that committed liquidations and was involved in money laundering. According to the judge, he led that organization together with Ridouan Taghi, among others.

Evidence for this came mainly from intercepted encrypted crypto messages between members of the organization. According to the judge, those reports give a “disappointing and abhorrent” picture of the way in which the criminal group thought it could use life and death, with revenge or money as the motive.

The Public Prosecution Service had demanded fourteen years in prison against the Chilean Amsterdammer.

The sentence was lower because according to the judge it has not been proven that R. was part of a gang that traded in cocaine. He was also acquitted of gun possession. In addition, the judge deducted a year from the sentence because of the length of the trial.

Richard R. has already served a long prison sentence in Germany for drug trafficking, NH Nieuws reports. In 2017, he was arrested and extradited in Chile at the request of the Netherlands. Since then he has been in the Extra Secure Institution in Vught.
