I've watched it at least a dozen times. Definitive performance by Robert Mitchum in the title role--some critics think it was the best in his long career. Peter Boyle just as good.

Crusher: Did you ever read the novel by George V. Higgins? IMO, the greatest crime novel ever written. Higgins' second novel, "The Digger's Game," is equally great.
