That Persico incident and him admitting the existence of the mafia reminds me of a somehow similar episode during the maxi-trial in Italy in the 80s, when Giovanni Bontate indirectly admitted the existence of the mafia by saying that “they” had nothing to do with the murder of the boy Claudio Domino in 1986, and was whacked together with his wife after being moved to house arrest. Riina must have thought that by saying “WE had nothing to do with it”, Bontate indirectly acknowledged the fact that the defendants in that trial constituted a singular group/organization…
