In the port of Rotterdam, more than 1,500 kilos of heroin was intercepted in a joint investigation by the Dutch police and the British National Crime Agency (NCA). According to the Rotterdam Public Prosecution Service, it is the largest heroin interception ever in the Netherlands.

Customs found the drugs in a container filled with Himalayan salt from Pakistan. The investigation was started after information from England. Thus, various suspects came into the picture. In the joint investigation, an address in Etten-Leur in Brabant was subsequently raided on 9 February and five men were arrested.

The lot has a street value of about 45 million euros. The drugs have since been destroyed.

In September 1,200 kilos of heroin were caught in the Netherlands . That shipment was on its way to the United Kingdom. In Felixstowe, the British also picked up more than 1.2 tonnes in February 2020 .

The previous Dutch record was 1.1 tons of heroin that was caught in Limburg in February 2017.
