When lawyers Nico Meijering and Leon van Kleef met a client in a hotel lobby in Dubai in June 2019, an unknown person joined them. The lawyers were shadowed by the Dubai Police because the Dutch police hoped that they would meet the then fugitive Ridouan Taghi in Dubai. The Algemeen Dagblad now writes that the police knew that the unknown man was the Irishman Daniel Kinahan, a man with an infamous name in the criminal world.

The two lawyers were talking to their client Khalid J. when a fourth person joined them. The Dutch police were in contact with the Dubai Police during the operation and thought for a short time that this person was Taghi. But because the identification was not sufficient, the man was not arrested.

Several police sources have now told the Algemeen Dagblad that the man (disguised with cap and glasses) was Daniel Kinahan. The Dubai detectives were able to identify Kinahan. The lawyers only wanted to say to the newspaper that "there was indeed someone who had no outward resemblance to Taghi."

Daniel Kinahan has lived in Dubai since 2015. There he profiles himself as a bona fide businessman who is active as a boxing promoter, among other things. Irish police believe he is still involved in criminal cases.

The Kinahan family is notorious and embroiled in a bloody feud with Irish criminals. Father Christy Kinahan, who speaks Dutch, has been convicted of money laundering , among other things .

The police suspect that Ridouan Taghi has collaborated with the Kinahan's, who are in the drug trade on the Spanish Costa del Sol.
