I've read Italian comments on this story, and the general public sentiment here is that the government are the real extortionists here. I have to agree with that sentiment. Say you seize all of their assets and break them down to poverty level, guess what they're going to turn to in order to come back up? More crime and violence. I think if they ever actually break the Mafia financially it's going to go back to the really violent days over there, however I think these assets ultimately end up back in the mob's hands through different strawmen and the beat goes on. By the way Carmelo Lucchese, what an awesome name I always loved the Lucchese name 😎
