One of the suspects who was arrested on August 7, 2020 at a major cocaine laundry in Nijeveen (Drenthe) is 40-year-old Colombian top criminal Alejandro C. He was sentenced in the United States to 32 years in prison in 2010 and released early in 2018, after which he returned to Colombia.

During the raid by an arrest team last summer, Alejandro C. was present in the cocaine laundry in a horse riding school in Nijeveen. According to the police, the cocaine laundry was the largest ever found in the Netherlands. The operation was a "drug laundry," in which drugs were "washed out" of clothes, according to police. According to the judiciary, the lab's annual turnover was good for more than 2.1 billion euros.
