The picture you paint of today's Mob is right on. You have to wonder: how do they stay in business? The answer is in your first paragraph: a reflection of society. As long as "civilians" want to buy drugs, get stuff that fell off the back of a truck, indulge degenerate gambling habits, patronize prostitutes, and otherwise break the law, they're going to be served by organized crime.
Bingo! I totally agree. I think it will continue. Organized crime will always be around. We may not recognize it as an entity as in years past. But I do agree that the Mafia, and fringe groups that satellite it will remain for the foreseeable future.
