Organized crime is nothing like it was in the past, but we're not going to see the end of the American mafia - or any other type of established organized crime phenomenon - in our lifetime. As long as there is some sort of recruitment pool and there are opportunities, there are always going to be people who'll chose that path. Nevertheless I don't think that any organized crime phenomenon will ever become as powerful again - at least not in Western society - as the American mafia was during the golden years.


I agree. They're not going anywhere soon, at least not in the northeast portion of the US, and of course in Italy/Sicily they'll always be around. They are way too ingrained into society itself over there to ever truly be eradicated.
