Vinny Bruno and Joe the Wop basically assisted Tony Bender in controlling all the Downtown Manhattan and Greenwich Village gay and lesbian bar scene, and for that matter all the shakedowns of after-hour joints, underground sex clubs, etc., for decades.
That and the heroin traffic were their real strength.
