Who were a list of guys that were part of a rival crew or faction that were able to keep their life after a failed attempt to overthrow a boss or administration?

Albert Gallo; and Frank Illiano come to mind. They were able to transfer to the Genovese Family after the 1st and 2nd Colombo war. I still wonder how they were spared?

from what I've read I think that Gallo and Illiano were really close with a lot of Westside heavy weights and that's how they survived

Gotti kept Tommy Bilottis brother in the fold even though he killed Tommy and Paul.

The Orena faction more or less was taken back into the fold. Guys like Cacace were originally pro Orena then switched.

I believe Frank Lino and Tony Mirra were both spared after the 3 capos murders. Although Mirra eventually got his 9 months later

@Sal Bronte.
Did not know that. Very interesting! Thanks! Do you know who it was? There were alot of heavyweights in that family back in the 70's.

@WhackWhack.
Bilotti's brother was lucky to not have been murdered. Heard Joe met with Sammy the Bill at a diner; and Sammy straightened Joe out quickly. Told him it was just business with the death of his brother Tommy.

@JCrusher
Mirra was only tolerated due to his cash flow. Suprised he wasnt whacked years earlier. No one liked him. Prolly cause his uncle was a captain.

Two others I forgot to mention are Mike Sabella and Nicholas Marangello. Both of them were close to Carmine Galante. Think Nick was his Consigliere. Mike was one of the more powerful captains. They were demoted once Rastelli was able to take back full control of the family. They are lucky they didn't get whacked alongside Galante.

seems like a lot of the surviving Colombo war participants were let back into the fold.
