Other bits of info related to the war:

- One of the Orena faction's main meeting points was Joe Scopo's social club "Cafe on N", which was run by Colombo associates Bobby Gallagher, Craig Marino, and John Baudanza (future Lucchese member).

- In 1991, soldier John R------ met with Vic Orena at Scopo's club and asked Orena to put a contract on Greg Scarpa, as Scarpa had abused an employee of R------. This is said to be yet another reason Orena wanted Scarpa killed. However, we know from other information that Scarpa was in Orena's sights before the R------ situation.

- Soldier Louis "Bobo" Malpeso and associate Christopher Liberatore (both in Patty Amato crew) were at Scopo's club celebrating their birthdays when they learned that Orena associate Vincent Fusaro had been murdered (by Scarpa). They planned to retaliate by killing Frank Guerra and Anthony Ferrara the next night.

- Soldiers Malpeso and Joe Amato, plus associates Tommy Cappa, Christopher Liberatore, and Liberatore's father Anthony were part of the hit team stalking Guerra and Ferrara. They waited outside of Wanna Bagel, which was supposedly owned by Guerra and Ferrara. Not finding either of them there, they went to Guerra's home but began being tailed by a car believed to contain Persico loyalists. Eventually the car stopped following them but the Malpeso hit team started following them in return and Malpeso ordered Liberatore to shoot the car's occupants, but Liberatore and Amato protested.

- After returning home, Malpeso found out that his own sons had been shot. Malpeso believed that the people tailing them earlier had done it and ordered Liberatore to not only kill the drivers of that vehicle, but also Guerra, Ferrara, and whoever was in the bagel store. Both Liberatore father and son couldn't find the car or Guerra and Ferrara, so they went ot the bagel store and questioned the teenager working there, Matteo Speranza. Thinking Speranza was pulling out a gun, Liberatore shot him dead.

- Following a meeting with Malpeso, Joe Amato, and Patty Amato, it was decided Liberatore would go into hiding at associate Chris Barrett's home in Canarsie.

- Both Christopher and Anthony Liberatore later became cooperating witnesses and stated that Patty Amato's crew regularly went out as a hit team trying to kill Persico members and would often run into other Orena hit teams. Another team they often saw was run by Joe Scopo and Sal Miciotta, which Bobby Gallagher was a part of.

- Christopher Liberatore collaborated with Gallagher six times in attempting to kill Persico loyalists. On Coney Island in June 1992, they saw a car drive by which Gallagher said contained Thomas McLaughlin, a Persico associate, so they began shooting into the vehicle. Three men ran from the car into a nearby park and Liberatore and Gallagher chased them and continued shooting, but they shot a civilian Daniel Norden and badly injured him.

- Gallagher and Malpeso also worked together to try and murder soldier Robert Tarantola in February 1992. Malpeso was also involved in the attempted hit on soldier Joseph Monteleone in 1992.

After the Persico faction denounced Orena, JoJo Russo was promoted to acting underboss.

- Sal Miciotta was a soldier in JoJo Russo's crew and following the failed attempt to murder Orena in 1991, Miciotta and other members of Russo's crew including Joseph Monteleone were called to a meting and told to prepare for war. Monteleone told Miciotta that this was an opportunity to elevate their stature in the family.

- After the truce was broken when the Orena faction tried to kill Scarpa in November 1991, Scarpa met with his capo Chucky Russo who then contacted Carmine Sessa and JoJo Russo to let them know the war had started.

- A meeting was held at JoJo Russo's grandmother's house with the Persico captains where it was decided they would retaliate. Associate "Joey Brains" Ambrosino (who later flipped) was told by Chucky Russo that they were ready to attack Orena members. After this meeting, Ambrosino was also told by JoJo Russo and Teddy Persico that they had attempted to kill Orena capo Benny Aloi but had missed. Mazza and Sessa later testified that Joe Monteleone attempted to kill Louis Malpeso around this time but missed as well.

- During the war, the Persico leaders continued to meet and Sessa and Scarpa complained that they wer the only ones actually killing anyone for the Persico side. The Russos stressed that they had hit teams on the street and they were looking for former Persico loyalists who had switched side, like John Minerva. In March 1992 John Minerva was killed on Long Island along with Michael Imbergamo who had been acting as Minerva's bodyguard. Joe Monteleone had been seen in an agitated state at a bar only a short distance from the Minerva murder just before it happened.

- Scarpa associate Larry Mazza testified that following the Minerva murder, the Persico faction held a meeting in Manhattan where the Russos boasted that they had killed Minerva. They were particularly happy as Minerva had been a close associate of JoJo's father Andy Russo for many years before turning on the Persico faction in favor of Orena.

- Sessa testified that either capo Joe Tomasello or Tddy Persico had told him that the Minerva murder was done by Joe Monteleone, Tommy Gioeli, and another member of Teddy Persico's crew.

- Larry Mazza testified that JoJo Russo gave him the address of Sal Miciotta (which was found to be incorrect) and that a source the Persico faction had within the Orena side gave him another address for Miciotta.

- Sessa testified that the New York Post article that outed Greg Scarpa as an informant was actually referring to Greg Scarpa Jr. However, Sessa did not believe Scarpa Jr. was an informant. After consulting with others, he learned it was referring to Scarpa Sr. and the consensus was that it was true he was informing.

- Joe Ambrosino testified that Michael Sessa was made in December 1988 and promoted to acting capo of the Robert Zambardi (who had violated parole) crew in 1991. I believe Zambardi had taken over Carmine Sessa's crew when he took over as consigliere. Members of this crew (I believe all of these are associates) were Joe Ambrosino, Larry Fiorenza, Richie Brady, Michael DeMatteo, Louie "Ganoli" LNU, Carmine Imbriale (later flipped), Michael Bulino, Anthony "Bird" Coluccio, Frankie "Steel" Pontillo, and Anthony Sayegh.

- Anthony Coluccio was murdered May 1989. Coluccio was close to the Sessas and had committed murders with Carmine Sessa some years earlier, but he had gotten heavily into dealing and using drugs, committing robberies, and ""doing stupid things". Coluccio was arrested for drug possession in Atlantic City and Carmine Sessa felt he might flip, so he ordered Mike Sessa and Ambrosino to kill him. They were originally going to kill him in a Puerto Rican drug neighborhood to make it look like a deal gone bad ,but it was too crowded so they told him there was a beef on Staten Island and shot him in a car there. Hank Smurra drove a crash car.

- In June 1991, Carmine and Mike Sessa, Joe Ambrosino, and acting capo Joe "Lefty" Sangeorgio started planning to kill Vic Orena and acting underboss Joe Scopo. On June 20, Carmine Sessa learned that Orena was planning to kill him (Sessa) at a making ceremony that had been scheduled the next day. Still not clear how Sessa found out, but when they got the news they decided to try and kill Scopo near his club and Orena at his home that very night.

- A hit team led by Hank Smurra couldn't find Scopo at his club so they went to his home but were unable to ambush him. This was the hit team that fled to a New Jersey motel. As we know the Sessa hit team on Orena was also unsuccessful.

- Hank Smurra was a Persico loyalist who was killed by the Orena faction.

- It was believed that capo Bill Cutolo and his crew had attempted the failed attempt on Greg Scarpa in November. In response, Mike Sessa, Ambrosino, and other Sessa crew members tried to ambush Cutolo at his girlfriend's house on Staten Island where he had been seen with ten other Orena loyalists. Cutolo had already left, however.

- Another plan was devised to kill Cutolo on Thanksgiving where Mike Sessa, Ambrosino, and Larry Fiorenza would dress up as Hasidic Jews to kill Cutolo at his girlfriend's grandmother's house in a Hasidic neighborhood in Brooklyn. They obtained the costumed through Anthony Sayegh and stored the Jew costumes in Fiorenza's girlfriend's home. She later testified that she saw the costumes. Ambrosino also told Frank Pontillo that they had fake mustaches and beards for the costumes. However, as I mentioned earlier that was the day the NY Post article was published indicating Scarpa was a rat and because Scarpa likely knew about the plan to dress as Jews to kill Cutolo, they gave it up. The other info I posted said it was Scarpa who was going to dress as a Hasidic, but it sounds like that is inaccurate and he was just involved in planning.

- In November 1991, Carmine Sessa informed Mike Sessa and Ambrosino that Orena, Scopo, and capo Thomas Petrizzo had been seen in Ozone Park and they tried to ambush them there but again failed. They found Scopo playing cards with Gambino members and decided not to kill him there due to the presence of Gambinos.

- The following month in December, Mike Sessa, AMbrosino, and Imbriale attempted to kill Michael Spataro, an associate of Bill Cutolo. However, they received word that their car matched a vehicle that had committed an unrelated murder and the police were looking for it so they called it off.

- In January 1992, Carmine Sessa ordered his brother Mike, Ambrosino, and other crew members to kill Frank Iannaci, another associate of Bill Cutolo. They waited outside of Iannaci's apartment but a security guard approached them so they fled.

- During this same period, Mike Sessa, Ambrosino, and Imbriale planned to murder Cutolo soldier Joe Campanella at his home in Brooklyn. They could not locate him.

- In April 1992, Mike Sessa, Ambrosino, Pontillo, and Mike DeMatteo attmpted to kill soldier "Bobo" Mapeso of the Amato crew. However, they noticed a LE vehicle at the scene which began to follow them and aborted the hit. They made a couple more attempts culminating in an attempt where they tried to block his car but Ambrosino stopped prematurely which only allowed them to shoot Malpeso's back window. They called it off after that.

- In June 1992, Carmine Sessa, Mike Sessa, Greg Scarpa, and the rest of the Sessa crew came up with another plan to kill Bill Cutolo. There would be seventeen members of the hit team in total, including members and associates. The shooters would be Pontillo, Fiorenza, DeMatteo, and Richie Brady, with Ambrosino as a shooter/driver and Mike Sessa as a back-up shooter. This hit was planned for Cutolo's girlfriend's home and would include stoln cars, machine guns, shotguns, bulletproof vests, and armor-piercing bullets. They also did test drives to prepare. The FBI had bugged Ambrosino's car however and heard the whole plan which led to them arresting Ambrosino and DeMatteo. Sessa then called off the plan.

- Joe Ambrosino was the chief loanshark for Carmine Sessa and loaned money out to other loansharks in the crew.

I didn't hear about that but if it's a case of someone claiming remorse in order to get leniency then I wouldn't be taking a conman's word at face value. And if you are driving the crash car - in any kind of crime - I would've thought that makes you part of the hit team/bank robbing team. You're deeply implicated.

At trial, Gioeli denies that he was involved in the hit and dared the government to charge him with the murder, which they didn’t. But Dino Calabro (IIRC) testified that Gioeli would bring up the nun killing from time to time and bemoan that he was going to hell.

Fair enough I guess. Reminds me of the scenes with Paulie and The Virgin Mary in The Sopranos. Life imitating art.

Lol I never would've posted this without permission from B. He answered my pm today and said it was ok so I copy and pasted it, if he would've said no then I wouldn't have done it, considering how much time and effort went into it and the fact that I'm not trying to get banned. One poster quit posting and deleted all of his old posts from the forum because of people posting his info other places and not giving him credit for the research.

Jimmy Angelina and Salvatore Miciotta, allegedly. Miciotta joined Witsec and Angelina was whacked in ‘87 so neither were charged.
