The sprawling home is still on the market, Macedonio told reporters, saying the proceeds from the home would cover restitution in addition to forfeiture.

What's his day job? How do these people prove their income?

Your posts reek of such disgusting jealousy I'm amazed you haven't jumped off a cliff already.

I take no offense because I know you're just gimmick posting. I think it's mildly funny.

In Massachusetts there is a saying “Walpole State Prison (used to be the most serious prison in Mass before SBCC) is full of people whose lawyers didn’t take any shit from the judge.”

It seems like the court took exception to some of the things his attorney said. Could have added abit because of that.

Personally I find it embarrassing whenever a judge exceeds a prosecutors recommended sentence as in this case.

Extortion relating to a Colombo family stock fraud in 2006. He was imprisoned from 2006-2013. Then he was arrested in 2016 for violating parole. The following year came his enormous loansharking bust, which alleged that he ran a lot of it behind bars.

He had a fence company but also served various stretches in prison. He has arrests from 1959, 1960, 1963, 1967, 1970, 1978 and 1998. Career criminal.

You had mentioned he was a plumber, mechanic has been mentioned for his occupation too. Did he do both and own the fence company? If he had all 3 going he was foolish to stay involved. Thanks for his arrest record, can you please tell me if ay of those were felony convictions, if you know?

Jace I have no idea about his being a plumber and mechanic. But what you have to understand is that most wiseguys have some sort of legitimate business they own to give themselves an air of authenticity. You can’t throw your hands up in the air and say “if they’ve got such a great fence company, why are they involved in organised crime?” Because organised.crime comes first. Organised crime pays for the legitimate businesses. Organised crime is their full time job.
During the 1990s, Vincent Asaro ran an enormous car theft ring that netted him millions of dollars. Mechanics would place orders to Vinny for various cars because they needed parts, and Vinny would send out squads to jack the cars. All of this came while he was running his fence company.

I couldn't have put that better myself. Whenever anyone brings up a mobster being even semi-legitimate it comes with a sizeable caveat as you said.

14 years is insane and a crazy amount of forfeiture. Was he offered a plea here at all before it went to jury?

The worst I’ve see was the Colombo guy who beat the murder rap but the judge thought he done it and gave him 50 years! It didn’t help that he said he would do 20 years standing on his head. There should be limits as that’s a joke. If the government can’t prove a case beyond reasonable doubt it’s wrong that the judge can just give any sentence they feel to. That’s not democratic justice.

Dino Saracino is who you're talking about.

How is 14 years a harsh sentence for a crime of this magnitude from a serial repeat offender?

A few things people need to understand:

Giallanzo was looking at eight-to-ten years via his recommended plea agreement. So he got more than that, but those were simply advisory recommendations. He also has to give over a huge forfeiture and is being forced to sell that house. Giallanzo was looking at far more time than that had he gone to trial and lost.

Giallanzo's indictment charged him as being the head of a 19-year-long racketeering conspiracy that controlled one of the largest recorded loanshark books in recent times, alongside gambling, drug dealing, and extortion. TThe racketeering conspiracy also involved the murder conspiracy and attempted murder of a rival drug dealer. The crimes also alleged that he ran his operation and continued to become rich during a seven-year stint for extortion he served from 2006-2013. So again, Giallanzo's sentence was stiff compared to his plea agreement, but not out-of-the-ballpark insane. Giallanzo knew the sentence recommendations were advisory when he took the deal and he knew the judge Dora Irizarry hated his guts. It was a gamble, which he lost.

Some people will still insist it's harsh.
