You have to remember, the gambino’s were the biggest and most profitable family at that time. There is no way you can bring in that kind of money without the feds targeting you.
It boiled down to this.. the FBI against one guy.. who wins??


i never denied his ability to attract guys to follow him. He did have a ability to lead in a way. HOWEVER i still dont think he was a smart guy. He wasnt a dummy but ill put it this way...he wasnt as smart as he thought he was or like he said in his prison tapes

Lets assume Gotti had a genious IQ. Would that have made a difference? No.
He would of ended up the same way. Lets say he never talked and wasnt high profile? He still would of ended up in prison for life and there would of been another rat that identified each and every capo.
Look how low profile bin laden was and we found him.
Once the government targets you, its all over.
Was Gigante smart?? What kind of life did he have?? A shitty one. At least gotti enjoyed life. Gigante lived the life of a prisoner before he ever went to prison.

The act the Chin put on did work for a while so it's a possible trade off.

Aren't some of Gigante's relatives still living off of some of his rackets? Gigante didn't think of himself, he thought of both his mob family and his real family. The Genovese family is still the most powerful family today thanks mostly to the operations Chin was able to keep going while he shuffled around like a lunatic, even if he wasn't able to enjoy the spoils in public. Gotti couldn't think beyond himself. This is what Gravano has always talked about.

Every day on the street in a bath robe in not good.. when gotti went down, alot of guys wanted nothing to to with being boss. Technology became far too advanced and both Leonetti and Gravano ( both underbosses) sent a clear message that omerta was now only just a word in the urban dictionary.
Believe it or not, guys like gotti, scarfo, and amuso prove that starting at the bottom and getting to the top doesnt work well in the mob. All 3 started off as street guys that planned scores and were basically arch criminals. Castellano and Bruno were quint essential racketeers not gangsters. They make the best bosses though. They make business decisions not emotional decisions.
All 3 guys i mentioned met their demise by making a bunch careless emotional decisions.
Think about that, its true.

Jackie had a good relationship with cefulo he made him his underboss before they were busted for operation old bridge and cali was in his crew since the 80tys wonder if the corrozzo still hold power in the family or have they been put out to pasture.

I know will never really know there not a press release but if the Sicilians have the power why have competition for a pair of brothers who held high ranks but kept going to jail before they could takeover the thrown.
