As President-elect Trump prepares to take the oath of office, how many of you know what it states? Here it is:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Notice that the oath is not to preserve, protect, and defend the United States or Americans, but the Constitution. Why? Remember that prior to the Constitution's composition and ratification, the Nation operated nationally under the Articles of Confederation which was simply a "league of friendship" among the states. The weakness of its national provisions is what prompted the Constitutional Convention. Thus, once the Convention had finished its work, its delegates (for the most part-39 of them) were highly invested in preserving what they toiled so long that 1787 summer to compose because they saw it as the best chance for America's success.

Gets,

No that's the South region. It's an hour north from the Gulf Coast. I use to live there last year.

BF,

Pardon me. I get hurricanes and tornadoes confused and just assumed that the bad weather was hitting the part of MS that's along the Gulf.

Rest in Peace to the ones who are gone, but seeing the footage it's somewhat good news that many more people weren't killed over there.

Since you stayed out there, how are your friends/family from that part holding up?

BF,

You guys are in my thoughts and prayers. We've had some severe weather in California, but nothing like that. We had pebble-sized hail and you guys had golf-ball sized hail. I wish you and your family the best out there.

Now this is the second time I'm hearing about a story like this. Teen streams her suicide.

Last name sounds familiar and because of the area, I'm thinking this is a little Haitian American girl.

Indeed. There's a longer version of the video that the PD of that town released.....threy are minutes of footage where the video "vanishes". I thought tampering with law enforcement dashcams was a crime.

When they saw the Northwestern student ID, they REALLY got angry and beat him harder.... smile

Some people are just not cut out to be cops and should be doing something else.

I honestly don't know why any person of any color would jump out of their vehicle and start yelling. Note to everyone, when pulled over by a cop always remain in your vehicle with hands on the wheel, never jump out of the car in an excited manner and I promise you nothing like this will ever happen.

I could have missed something, but to me what the guy told him was right. Right when they found out that the car was register to him. They should have let him go and appolized to him. Instead they kept looking in the car to find something to arrest him for. Plus they got him away from the dash camera both his and the cops. Why did they do that?

I thought he handled the situation better then I would have. The kid was a gentlemen. The girl just my opinion was a nosey [BadWord]. smile

Anyone else think it's ironic that known racists and wifebeaters like Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin pontificate about Trump?

And this Bruce Springsteen guy belittling the people who voted for Trump.

This guy is so out of touch with working class people that he wrote a song from the viewpoint of the terrorists on his "Rising" album.

Foot,

Notice the difference between where the cops had Ricky Williams stand....and where the Illinois cops moved the "suspect". Guy was SCARED for his life...which is probably why he rushed out of car with hands in air...DIRECTLY in front of where the dashcam would be filming.

What amazed me the most is that the women thinks she's a vigilante and is actually FOLLOWING him around. If he really was a bad guy, he would have noticed her tailing him and gotten out and shot her. She needs to stop watching Charles Bronson films.

Moe,
I agree with you here. News media picks and chooses who to call out for bad behavior. For example Paula Dean is a villain...but Marky Mark who has hate crimes on his jacket, gets a pass. racists, wife beaters, and actual rapists win praise and awards and if they lean a certain way politically all is forgiven.

Update on Hattiesburg:

http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/story...rnado/96923870/

And a ward map:

http://www.hattiesburgms.com/government/departments/mayors-office/city-council/ward-maps/

Tornado went through Ward 2 which is mostly the Eastside & Downtown further south. Across the river is the city of Petal. I live near Ward 3, which covers mostly West Hattiesburg. Also parts of Ward 1 covers Westside too.

The map need visual improvement so I also recommend Google maps afterwards too. I-59 seperation West Hattiesburg (aka Oak Grove) from the city and county ( Westside in Lamar County). Hardy St divides the Northside & Southside while Main St seperation the Eastside.

Fun Fact: Southern Miss is on the Northside and covers a large area. I drove through the campus backside ( West 4th st) near daily.

BF,

Thanks for the update. The death toll for MS hasn't risen, property damage is extensive but property can always be replaced.

I forgot how big some of those states in the region are, and thought the Gulf region of MS covered more of the state.
Is the affected area prone to tornadoes?

Also ,I always thought that you from North MS .Glad that you and family are safe.

BF,

Glad you're okay. At the very least, I hope that through this disaster people come together and help each other. Sometimes something like this is what it takes for strangers to see each other as human and to show concern.

Gets,

This should help out understanding the geography of my state: http://www.mapsofworld.com/usa/states/mississippi/mississippi-county-map.html

The 6 counties at the bottom are the Gulf Coast ( 228 area code) collectively. Gulfport & Biloxi are in Harrison county. South Mississippi is Issequena county going straight across to Kemper county ( 601). The rest is North Mississippi (662). I used to live in Hattiesburg due to job. As you can see it's quite a trip from Lowndes county to Forrest.

@ F1
Thank you for the consideration and helping each other out in my State comes second nature.

Louisiana's fixed the problem of police abuses by making resisting arrest a felony hate crime. Good thing the police never falsely accuse a suspect of resisting arrest.

I never met anyone who didn't have a very smart child. What happens to these children, you wonder, when they reach adulthood?

Indeed,Helen

Seeing some of these videos of sadistic cops, I think they need to revamp their training techniques. These takedowns don't look like they are done by trained professionals at all.

Even if I am a fully compliant citizen, my body will tense up and react to trauma. Five men yelling and punching somebody is not gonna lead to a person just going limp. We have natural survival instincts that won't allow us to just take assbeatings.

I've gotten jumped before. We attended a magnet high school that wasn't anywhere near where we lived and my buddies and I would take the occasional L from local guys. The thing is, after a certain point we just weren't going for it anymore and were ready for whatever.4 of us were going to take on 10 grown men one time..we had to draw that line in the sand.

This is the direction that law enforcement is pushing people.
My dad was a very law and order type guy and I was raised to respect authority, but enough with this bullshit.

I think the sort of police training that's given in the UK could be very useful in curtailing a lot of police abuse. One big area of concern for me is the treatment of the mentally ill and those with physical issues, from obesity to disability.

Eric Garner, who was clearly obese and had asthma, should never have been placed on the ground with a man on top of him putting pressure on his lungs and diminishing his ability to breathe. I firmly believe that this had more to do with his death than the officer choking him. The police get away with that because it's in their training, and as long as they follow policy, it's legal. The training is wrong, backward, outdated and dangerous.

The chokehold was illegal, but there was no damage to his windpipe or neck bones. Meanwhile, the officer who choked and put his weight on Garner's torso, Officer Daniel Pantaleo, was being supervised and every move watched by Sergeant Kizzy Adoni, who did nothing to intervene. She was the ranking officer, yet no charges were brought against her. This is the sort of thing that's a lot more common than the sadistic cop. Sadistic cops need to be fired, and if they commit crimes while wearing their badges, but in prison. The average cop, however, thinks he or she is doing the right thing as long as the policy is being followed. So to have a greater effect, there has to be more accounting for the policies.

it's never going to happen, do you remember the Cleveland cops murdering the 10 yr old boy, they pulled up 2 seconds later the kids dead. cops have always gotten away with murder, I grew up in L.A. in the fifties, beatings in police stations, were common, that's why the Escobedo and Miranda decision came down from the supreme court.... these beatings, and murders are nothing new, cell phones, and cams, are. Binnie, you're probably right that it won't happen, but with the right leadership it *could* happen. It would take leaders with a strong sense of civil liberties and smart enough to use the bully pulpit the right way.

it would take the conservatives, together with the dems, to get anything done, none of them have ever cared about the public, they all hold the public in contempt. notice in the video the man says "i have 5th amendment rights" the cop says "that doesn't apply here" ?????????????????????? no constitution!!!

Cops are bullies and they need to realize they work for us. It is unfortunate they feel they have so much power they can violate civil liberties when ever the please.

Trump's job approval rating starts at 36%, down to the Bush lows already.

"...the successful annihilation of organized crime's subculture in America would rock the 'legitimate' world's foundation, which would ultimately force fundamental social changes and redistributions of wealth and power in this country. Meyer Lansky's dream was to bond the two worlds together so that one could not survive without the other." - Dan E. Moldea

i thought people had stopped believing polls they are bullshit i think they make it all up

still trump is no doubt about it very unpopular with a lot of people. Going to be an interesting 4 years got some hopes but at the moment more fears we are in worrying times. Hearing they could be dropping the sanctions on Russia the EU are going to go crazy UK in a very awaked situation we are leaving the EU so we will need to become closer to US for economic and military reasons so Trumps support of brexit and UK is good for us but we don't want to get too close either EU i think are already going to fuck us during Brexit some of those countries want to see the UK punished they will take there anger with Trump out on us.

i think the EU wont exist 25 years from now or at least not in its current form anyway Germany is running it pays for everything now UK has left only other real economic power is France eventually i think Germany will grow tired of it just my gut feeling could be wrong. Holland could be next to leave don't see LePen winning in France shes just too racist she makes Trump look like a saint Italy i think will split up eventually when the five star movement win next election. The UK will also split up 20 years from now there wont be a UK Scotland will break of eventually its coming. Spain will break up aswell Catalan is breaking of eventually whenever Spain like it or not everyone there wants independence.
