There is a movie on turner Classic movies this Wednesday night at 11:30 eastern time. that is never on television. You can't find it any where staring Alan Ladd the name of it is "The iron mistress" the story of Jim Bowie and how he got his knife.

I love real history this is not real history but the knife used in the movie is historic.

It Has been used in a lot of other movies and the tv shows like Jim Bowie, and in the movie the Alamo.

There is a scene in the movie where he fights a man with a sword with it in a dark
room great scene. That scene is on you tube.

The Randall knife company even made a copy of it for their line of great knives.

Well, the new Ben-Hur movie is due out mid-August. I'll watch it if only to see how they produce the vaunted chariot race.

For those of you who haven't seen 1959's original, the chariot race is probably the finest scene ever produced in cinematic history. It did not include any special effects and was done in one take.

I can tell you now it won't be better than the original.

Do any Board members watch Angie Tribeca? If so, what do you think about it?

That original movie was fantastic became a Stephen Boyd fan from watching that movie.

Want to see a good movie staring the great Tyrone Power and Steven Boyd he had a small part but a great one in Abandon ship on youtube in its entirety fantastic.

You crazy kids. The 1959 Ben Hur isn't the original.

There was a great 1925 film starring the Ramon Navarro and Francis X. Bushman. The most expensive film of the silent era.

I never met anyone who didn't have a very smart child. What happens to these children, you wonder, when they reach adulthood?

lol Big Aggravation lmao that's funny

I've never seen my Dad or any of my uncles win at the track. In fact, that's where I learned a lot of cuss words both in Italian and English grin But I've always been good at betting the ponies.

Single deck blackjack is my game! Doesn't exist in Vegas anymore. And at that casino in Queens I had to play blackjack on a machine, no real live dealer. Weird.

I saw two really good old movies the other day.

One was Pittsburg staring John Wayne and Randolph scoot and Marlena Detrick
Funny and good about coal miners. Free on Amazon prime.

The other about oil well guys Boom Town. Great movie in every way staring Spenser Tracey and Clark Gable if you got the turner Classic movie app you can see it now. A truly great movie.

See both

Foots, I am going to watch that movie you suggested on the app. The last movie I saw using it was "The Cincinnati Kid". Good movie. Steve Mc Queen MEOW grin

Recently, I saw John Wick (who knew Keanu Reeves could act?) , "Transcendence" which was pretty creepy but a good flick, "The Revenant", outstanding film, and now one of my favorite war movies is "Enemy at the Gates". I am definitely going to watch that picture again. smile

I'm currently on a Leslie Nielsen kick. He cracks me up. lol

Does anyone watch the USA program "Mr. Robot?" Been watching, kind of interesting with an interesting concept, but I must admit it's getting kind of confusing. Missed the first 5 minutes or so of the last episode, and all of a sudden it's the 50s. LOL confused confused Not sure if I'll continue to watch or not.

Btw, I'm watching an old Law & Order episode with Frank Vincent guest starring. I always think of PLaw when I see him. LOL

Well, Deniro's first love again (maybe 2nd love to gangster films) is hitting the theaters this month: Hands of Stone about Roberto Duran.

“Ben-Hur” could lose $100 million after collapsing at the box office last weekend.

The biblical epic cost well over $100 million to produce and tens of millions to market and distribute globally. That amounts to a hefty price, one that stands little chance of being recouped following “Ben-Hur’s” paltry $11.2 million domestic debut. The film will be lucky to top out at $30 million when it finishes its stateside run, and will almost certainly shed screens next weekend as theaters try to move more popular films onto that real estate.

On hands of stone. When I lived at the mayflower hotel. Robert Duran would stay there when he trained. He arrived there like a fat bastard he is short he was about 180 pounds that is fat for a small guy. He had an entourage with him maybe 12 guys. There used to be a good humor truck across the street from the hotel on Central Park side. One of his guys would clean out the truck of the ice creams. He loved baseball his guys were also on his team they all had uniforms. He would find guys that would play his team. Even the hotel workers bought them uniforms as well.

DeNiro and Pesce knew Duran back then they also lived at the Mayflower then. I was not surprise when I first heard about this movie.

Well, a Magnificent Seven remake is about to open. I'm sure that it won't hold a candle to the original. I'm also sure that, in keeping with the unoriginal screenplays of today's movies, it will be gigantically more violent and depraved than the original. Well, we'll see.

EXCLUSIVE: AMC has opted not to renew Clyde Phillips’ drama Feed the Beast for a second season. The decision comes a month after the series, based on a Danish format, ended its 10-episode freshman run.

Boy, has Matt LeBlanc aged and grown since he played Joey Tribbiani on Friends. In his new sitcom he's looking his age and he's just plain fat.

Has anyone seen the new show with Kiefer Sutherland, "Designated Survivor"? I'm enjoying it so far. Interesting concept.

I also like Secrets & Lies (in 2nd season), and the first episode of "Timeless" was pretty good.

Designated Survivor definitely looks good and I have heard good things just haven't gotten around to watching it yet (sake with 24) as soon as I finish Mr. Robot season 1&2 it is the next show on my list

Speaking of Mr. Robot. I too watch that. Very unusual and I admit kind of confusing, but I'm trying to follow. smile

I watched first episode of "Timeless" in which a group of people go back to when the Hindenburg blew up. Only one episode so far, but could be promising.

Except for AHC/Discovery, original broadcast tv these days holds little attraction for me. Basically, I'm into reruns of Frasier, Friends, Bid Bang Theory. Timeless appears to be Quantum Leap all over again, right?

TIS & Oli - I like "Timeless". It was very good. It is a well balanced cross between "Back To The Future" & "Quantum Leap" with a touch of "Homeland". It's only been one episode but so far I'm all in.
