Outside of a good hip hop scene, New York also has a great death metal scene. Any native New Yorkers know about the local death metal scene?
Now I understand that this particular genre is, to put it mildly, an acquired taste lol

BF,

I used to listen to Lupe, and "Superstar" is one of my favorite songs. He went and got weird like Mos Def and I just don't get his music anymore. I enjoy their interviews a lot more than their music.

heard this song a few years ago, heard it again this morning.
Reminds me of the song Sting did years ago about "The Russians"

Daydreamin is my favorite song by Lupe. I must ask which album did he got weird on you? Lupe is one of the few hip-hop artist/rappers that I buy music and his lyricism is the best that my generation have heard and sadly overlook. I'm a level head fan of his work. smile

BF,

He's obviously well read and intelligent and comes off well on tv and in interviews but I stopped F'ing with him on the third album.

Of course, we sing the first part of "Superstar" chorus at every sports championship when it's clutch time. Star player throws a pick or misses free throws near end of the game

"If you are what you say you are.....a su-per-star

ha ha ha ha-ha ha ha ha ha-ha"

only try this around friends because people get HEATED when stars fold and you sing this.

@ Gets

LoL , Y'all wrong for that. Ha ha ha ha ha ha .

I had a feeling you would say the Lasers album and sadly he had to compromise on that. I still have despite Lupe dissatisfied with the direction of the album. Called it a low point and he loss some fan base too. I understood the situation and the content of his lyrics was still on point.

Have you listen to Food & Liquor 2 and Tetsuo & Youth yet?

@Ferg,

I have an appreciation for music history, so I'll buy a book or watch a doc. on other genres of music but not really a fan of Muddy or the Stones.Always respected the British rock acts for paying open homage to the Blues musicians who influenced them.
great doc that aired about the Blues on pbs years and years ago.

The Blues...7 part pbs special

@BF,

Lupe is talented but he lost me after album 3.I think he ran out of things to say/rap about.

Ferg,

I love Mannish Boy (pause) indirectly because of Married With Children tv show . On the show..whenever Al would fight, they'd play George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers' "Bad to the Bone"...
So I know the history of acts borrowing riffs, lines, etc from old songs...So when I hear Mannish Boy...I recognize it as the basis for "bad to the bone"..and I liked the xerox version so of course I love the original.

As Al Bundy would say"Let's Rock"

@Ferg,
PBS doc. on the Blues was done in 7 parts. Here is the film that Martin Scorsese made for it.

titled and with Spanish language subtitles(perhaps to prevent youtube from yanking it).I saw the entire series and I really liked Scorsese's approach.

Many here have voiced displeasure with the AMC doc. about the mob because of short cuts, fabrications, lies,"celeb experts".I'm guessing AMC is doing these things to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

My buddies and I have a running joke about documentaries done about African subject matter..we laugh because the "experts" they choose, shortcuts,fabrications,etc are always blatantly to appeal to a wider audience. And it's done to an almost comedic level. Scorsese didn't use any of these tricks.

I heard this song in the car just now and the first person I thought of was Pizza. It's HIS SONG and the reason why numbnut(s) follow him on these boards.

Start it at 28 seconds

I think it's funny lol I'm picturing Steve Martin in the movie The Jerk dancing to it which makes it even funnier to me. I'm in a weird mood today tongue

You have good taste Dude. Bake is one of the greatest, up there with guys like Buddy Rich, Max Roach and Elvin Jones. He was miles beyond his contemporaries. Best rock drummer ever, no contest.

He's also hilariously insane. I'd love to knock back a few drinks with him.

@gets,
Listen to Food & Liquor 2 then Tetsuo & Youth then come back talk. Atlantic caused too much commotion & interference in his 3rd album. He haven't lost track on anything just hit a speed bump and obstacles. He's independent for now and coming out with a new mixtape called Pharoah Height 2/30. If you ever heard Fahrenheit 1/15 then this artwork should be epic.
