I think I told you this before, Oli. I had zero expectations for "Grudge Match," and I came away pleasantly surprised. I think I may watch it again this weekend. But I still think that Alan Arkin stole the film, just like he did with "Stand Up Guys."

I finally saw "Flight," with Denzel Washington last night. Not a great movie, but certainly a great performance. Denzel may honestly be the best actor of his generation (the generation in between Pacino/DeNiro and today's top actors).

Arkin and Brian Cranston came very close to stealing Argo as well.

I just saw a movie called Rabbit Trap staring Ernest Borgnine.

I don't really know what to make out of it. Has anyone every seen it?

Glengarry Glen Ross is a great movie. Arkin was good in that but hard to choose between him, Baldwin, Harris, Spacey and Pacino. Jack Lemmon was the star of that show though. One of the best performances I've seen.

I agree that Lemmon stole the movie; his role here was equal to his portrayal in "Save the Tiger", one of the grittiest (and most depressing) movies I've ever seen.

A personal note on "Glengarry": many of its scenes were filmed on Sheepshead Bay Road in Brooklyn and one night, as I was geting off the subway, coming home from work in Manhattan, I saw Al Pacino standing in the middle of the street. Even though the police had the area cordoned off and I was a good 40 yards away, it was still quite exciting. (My wife didn't believe me until the local neighborhood paper had a few pix the following week).

Anyway, it's one of the best dramas made in the past thirty years and an EXCELLENT character development story. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who likes good drama.

Jack Lemmon was one of the ten greatest actors of the 20th century. And you're right, he was brilliant in that film.

And I'm not sure if you're familiar with the playwright, David Mamet, who wrote "Glengarry." But his plays are VERY difficult to adapt to the big screen. For example, I saw Pacino do "American Buffalo" in the early '80s. He owned the role of Teach. But I personally don't think Dustin Hoffman did the role justice in the film. And Hoffman is one of the greatest actors who ever lived.

Point being, they assembled the right crew of actors for "Glengarry." And the thing that made Pacino's role so impressive is that he filmed that movie and "Scent of a Woman" literally back to back.

In the play it did not have the Baldwin part. They wrote that for him in the movie.

But his scene is a big scene that real salesman like to say among each other.

Always be selling smile

Same is true in the boiler room scene with the star of Argo I forget his name

That's the Sheepshead Bay subway stop in the background. I think this was pretty much the only outdoor set in the movie so it must have been around here that you saw him.

I'd give my left nut to see Pacino or De Niro in NY. The only celebrity I've ever seen in NY (in a street situation) was Billie Joe Armstrong and he was being corralled into a limo.

DeNiro does not walk the streets he has a kid who drives for him or he will take a cab.

Pacino had or has a big truck car that he drives.

Ringo the Beatles ringo walks the streets.

I've seen them down by our West 8th Street property a bunch of times, Foot. He used to drive him in a black Lincoln LS. Now he uses a Suburban or something similar. It's a big black utility vehicle. It looks like something the Feds drive. DeNiro and Pacino have both gotten very old looking. Much older than they appear on television and in theaters.

Just watched the movie "Boyhood". I liked it but I don't see hype. Maybe there was some deeper meaning I didn't understand about the movie. Idk. I also want to see the movies "Birdman" and "Foxcatcher" so bad.

It gets me a little nervous because I feel like De Niro can still make great movies and put forth greats perfromances but his elderly appearance could hold him back a little bit. I know he's supossed to play frank sheeran in the Irishman, carlos Marcelo in the legacy of secrecy, and Ray Arcel in Hands of stone. Those all sound like movies he could really excel in.

Does anyone watch Sundance channel series called "The Red Road?" First season was only 6 episodes. I caught up this week.

I watched Surviving Christmas, a movie James Gandolfini clearly didn't want to be in. This was right before Ben Affleck started getting mainstream acceptance. Terrible movie.

Fun With Dick and Jane was surprisingly good. I watched the whole movie start to finish without looking at my watch. That's always a sign of a good movie. It adapted the original for a more contemporary climate too. Good storyline.

There is a true story about a truce during WW1 on Christmas and they played a soccer game. Then true ended and they went back to killing each other.

There have been some movies made about it but I could not find any here in the US.

But then I found one

Joyeux Noel is a movie about it. You can find it in English on Amazon instant video and it is on Prime.

The German actress Kreuger she was in National treasure was in it.

The football game was actually a small part of it.

I won't spoil it for you by telling more about it.

It is a fantastic Christmas movie.

But it is not for kids.

Check it out

Just saw "Brooklyn Lobster" staring Danny Aiello.

Pretty good movie sorry no killings in it except lobsters. At the end they said no lobsters were actually killed during the making of this movie. smile

The Butler was great. How did it not get nominated for any Oscar awards?

Just saw "looking for an echo" on Amazon prime. I liked this movie never was released in theathers.

Stars Armand Assante and good supporting cast my friend Johnny, the guy from crime story, the actor that hit the lottery here in ny when it first started and the guy Chris Montesante killed in sopranos for killing his father. It even has Doowop music.

The hospital in the movie was the same hospital my oldest son Vic was born in.

I dont know, I was wondering the same thing.

imdb gave it a very good rating 7.1 out of 10.

It did say the Movie was awarded several nominations and a Win at black film festival and some others but not The Oscars.

Decent movie, one of the better Halloweens after the original.

I always did like part 3 and 6.
