Suge was a hardcore blood from Compton. Not sure what hood/set but he was no joke, he was extorting Vanilla Ice too.
but he took a giant hit in the blood world, when he did his 9 years on a sny yard.
Not really. He's still widely respected by most MOB Piru's.
Whether you hate him or not, there's no dancing around the fact that he is a well-connected criminal. The joint venture Blood-Crip extortion of hip-hop artists he masterminded was a multi-million dollar racket. He shaked several nightclubs down together with some Israeli mobsters. Those are no low-level petty theft crooks.

His reputation definatley precedes him. Which is why he is still effective and people would want to work with him in those sort of schemes. I found this article alleging his involvement in some sports contract dispute.
Quote:
Agent: Suge Knight Part Of Reggie Bush Dispute Posted by Brooks on Jun. 10, 2010, 4:56pm Earlier today, I noted how Reggie Bush’s false extortion charge against sports marketing agent Lloyd Lake is what really brought down the USC football program. (Thanks to the resulting audio tape evidence of Bush and his family taking improper benefits from Lake and Michael Michaels.)
One of the two reporters who originally broke that Bush story, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, gave us a clue today on Twitter as to why Bush might’ve claimed to the Feds that Lake was trying to extort money from him. Ok, so here’s the deal. At one point when this got crazy, Lloyd Lake reached out to Suge Knight to resolve his dispute with Reggie Bush. Lloyd did this through Faizon Love…and actor and comedian who has been in a lot of movies and on TV.
twitter quotes
Quote:
As in, Suge Knight, Death Row records CEO and man who supposedly hung Vanilla Ice off a hotel balcony by his legs. We could never get Suge Knight to talk to us. But we confirmed he was contacted by Lloyd Lake. It just never became relevant 2 the story. That was always the whale…getting Suge Knight to talk about how he was asked to settle the dispute between Bush & New Era sports. Anyway, a lot of people freaked out and got really scared when Suge Knight supposedly got involved with the whole thing. It scared people.
The mind runs wild when Suge Knight is injected into anything, but the extortion claim by Bush to the Feds resulted in no charges of wrongdoing by Lake. As I wrote earlier today, had Bush never brought those extortion charges against Lake, the USC program would not be facing the harsh NCAA sanctions that it is today.
So, though it’s a stretch, I guess you could suggest that Suge Knight was partially responsible for the NCAA penalties USC will have to now endure.

I think he's still connected and working in the entertainment industry. If he had that kind of pull back then, he's super shot caller now.He seems like he's a smarter version of Suge. Where Suge is going to muscle somebody, MC will use his power for leverage. When they asked him to call off the wolves off 3rd Bass, a less intelligent man would have asked for money.....he asked for connections to distribute a record he owned.

That particular scene is what this movie authentic , something that Hollywood is to afraid to try, and that's the Black P. Stone Jungle set. Those are the ones started by a fellow from Chicago T Rodgers. Jungles & Bity (City) are the only 2 sets and their reputation is cemented there.
BF
I couldn't find the article but did you know that Rodgers appeared in Colors with Penn and Duvall.
I don't remember whether I read the article or saw the film first.A few things didn't add up. A Triple OG taking THIS kind of role(this scene is his entire role).
And... Rogers was active back before the streets had access high powered automatic guns and such, so seeing his old pictures and seeing what he looked like at the time..was shocked that the is such a small, unimposing guy. I figured that part of what made, say ,Tookie, so feared...besides his willingness to commit violent acts was his physical stature. Rodgers looks like a mortician.

I seen Colors a few time and didn't realized it. Tookie was into the bodybuilder culture and that impressed those around him to do the same. Look at the pics of Raymond Washington and you'll see that he's much like T Rodgers size but well known as a lethal street boxer. Tookie reputation was more or less appearance per say.
Here's an article from an interview on T Rodgers back in 2005:
I doubt very much he's gonna post it. Eugene Big U Henley,One of the guys thats alleged to be involved in the artist shakedown racket with suge has commented on the events in baltimore.

Former Gang Member Urges Baltimore Protesters To 'Stay Home Tonight' Posted: 04/28/2015 6:08 pm EDT Updated: 04/28/2015 6:59 pm EDT
Share on Google+ Eugene "Big U" Henley said on Tuesday that he understands why violent protests have engulfed Baltimore, but thinks it's in the demonstrators' best interest to stay out of the streets.
The 48-year-old former West Los Angeles gang member said in an interview with The Huffington Post that after seeing numerous instances of police violence go unpunished, many may see fighting back as the only option.

"When you see this happen consistently over and over again, you’re saying to the people that there’s no other recourse for you. You have no voice in the world," said Henley, who now runs the nonprofit group Developing Options. "You’re asking the victim not to be mad. You’re asking the victim not to react."
But with National Guard troops called in and a curfew of 10 p.m. established in the city, Henley urged protesters, especially the ones who have engaged in clashes with police, to "stay home tonight" for their own safety.
"I would advise them not to take to the streets tonight," he said. "I don’t think it would be smart for the young people to go out there tonight and throw rocks or do the other stuff they've been doing that could cause them to lose their lives."

Henley emphasized that he does not believe rioting is the answer.
"I don't agree with it," Henley said of the violence. "I don’t think that’s intelligent, but I can definitely see that people in the community are standing up and saying ‘We’re tired of it.'"

thanks for article, interesting yeah, Rodgers and Raymond Jackson come from the hand skills era where guys used to put their hands up and everybody didn't hide behind guns.
These were neighborhood guys in charge of neighborhood gangs. In a million years, I don't think any of them thought that the violence would become what it's become or that the sets would expand across the country like that. I've read that before crack....gangs were actually starting to die down out in L.A.
@Scorsese,
Either Mayweather is more connected then we know or Suge is really finished as a bully. By talking about posting bail and then reneging, FM just clowned Suge on a big scale.
also thanks for article about the L.A. guy's perspective on current riots, when LA gang member is telling you to pump your brakes, you know you're going to far.
I heard they asked a young woman in Baltimore what she thought of the article and she said
"F them West Coast dudes, cause in B-more we aim to hit people, you heard?"

Puffy or Diddy was arrested for assaulting an assistant coach on UCLA staff .Combs' son is on the team and Puffy took offense to the way the coach was treating his son during a practice...altercation involving a kettlebell went down and Combs was arrested .

I love how the beach bum hippie types refer to L.A. as being so "laid-back." Now, I like L.A., and there is some truth to that statement. But it's not nearly as "laid-back" as places like Honolulu or Key West.
@ Gets: You JUST missed your favorite episode of "My Wife and Kids" on MTV2. Clarence Clemons battling ClubFoot Kyle with Franklin under his coat .

Thanks, FUNNIEST scene ever from that show.I've seen that gag used hundreds of times but the scene always cracks me up.
Yup, that "routine" literally goes back to Vaudeville, maybe even longer. But they made it look fresh. The little boy who played Franklin (who must be twenty by now), has to be one of the funniest and intelligent child actors that I've ever seen. I can't even look at him on that show without laughing.

this is from before your time but 21 Jump Street was a show that used to air when Fox was just starting out. They did a few films based on the the tv show .
This is an episode of gangs infiltrating high schools. T Rodgers guest stars as gang expert cop....first seen about 8 minute into the show.

Thanks for that video and it's definitely before my time. It's surreal in that they used real handsigns ( Vatos Loco 13/ somewhere that's a real gang) and terminology.
