Just saw Grudge Match with Stallone & DeNiro. Pretty good picture! Kevin Hart is funny and spices it up with some good one liners.

Just saw rebel without a cause. Seen it many times, but could never relate to it.

How about you guy did it ever remind you about the old days.

Well I did have a button knife. Today they call it a switch blade. 8 inch blade was 8 dollars you could buy one in any candy store.

A switch blade back then was a button knife where you could switch blades.

These kids all had money their parents all owned houses and these kids owned cars.

We lived in tenements. 3 rooms kitchen, living room, bedroom and a bathroom if You lived in the front of the building. 25 to 30 dollars a month rent.

If you lived in the back apartment rent was 20 to 25 a month rent. No bathroom in the apartment. The kitchen sink had a plate over part of it. Take it off it turned into bath tub so you took a bath in a kitchen.

The toilets for the back apartments were in the hall ways smile

Remember we walked in on two twin sisters while they were tacking a bath in the kitchen. I still get a hard on just thinking about it. We made sure they were nice and clean before we left.

Loved bothering them while they were using the bathroom in the hall way. We wait until they were doing their business. Then we would call out Sharon is that you in there. It smells like its you sharan. smile

Bin, I read the book and saw the film. Very intense. The film did the book justice. Shit we have no idea about. The Seals are one dedicated group. One that most Americans cannot relate to, or even begin to understand. Even though you saw the film, I recommend the book. It provides so much more background on the Navy Seals.

Striking Distance.

This movie gets so much crap, in fact im sure even Bruce Willis has stated his dislike of it.

Buts its one of my guilty pleasures, always loved the dark tone of the movie.

I like it as well. Really good cast, especially Robert Pastorelli. He was very good. I was so used to him as Eldin in "Murphy Brown", the role was a real switch. Shame he died so young.

Good actor. He was a mess, though. He just couldn't get off the drugs. And from what I remember reading, at the time of his death they were looking to bring charges against him for murdering his much younger girlfriend. But cops always look at the significant other first in cases like that, so who knows what happened?

Saw a young James Gandolfini in an old Melanie Griffith movie named "A Stranger Among Us". Melanie plays a cop who goes undercover to catch the killer of an Hasidic man.

So did Melanie Griffith. And have you seen her lately?

She was on "Hawaii Five-0" last year as Scott Caan's mother. And sadly, between the booze, the drugs and the plastic surgery (fish lips and a pulled forehead), I wouldn't have recognized her but for her squeaky voice.

I just finished Magnum Force. I've seen Dirty Harry multiple times, just never any of the sequels.

I found it enjoyable, not as good as the first of course.

There was something about that movie that I did not like to crazy even for me. He was a teacher at Princeton right? When my daughter was thinking about going to Princeton we took the tour of the college. I booked a few friendly soccer games against Princetons club team. We won both games smile then I took my daughter for the tour.

I loved that tour Einstein worked there. They had a student just following him around. Einstein was always making notes on paper and throwing them away. The student was ordered to collect those pieces of paper. He would wander between the math and science building. They were afraid he would catch a cold in the winter time so they build a tunnel so hevwould not catch a cold when he walked to each. Man I loved that tour Princetown is also a very nice little place. Unfortunely my daughter did not like it as much as I did. She made it but instead went to Columbia because she liked the night life better here.

Crowe made a lot of really good movie. I really liked Cinderella man good story and it was real.

Critics said The Shining sucked? The Shining is one of the most critically acclaimed Horrors ever. It has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes - http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/shining/ . It's also pretty much a lock for top 5 in the majority of best Horror film lists, for instance on Channel 4 over here The Shining top their 100 Scariest Moments list.

Hi Camarel You are correct but years ago the critics did not feel that Kubrick was good as a director in that film. I could not find the documentary I was watching but I found this info to back up what I said.

The Shining (1980)
Stanley Kubrick may be considered one of the greatest directors of all time, but in 1980, he was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Director for his film The Shining. Prior to its release, fans of Stephen King’s novel eagerly awaited the film adaptation—but Kubrick steered the narrative so far away from the source material that audiences were turned off. (King wasn't pleased, either.) The Shining received a mixed critical response for not being a conventional horror film, and it was nominated for two Razzies.

When The Shining was released on VHS, however, critics immediately re-assessed it: Roger Ebert said it was one of the greatest horror films ever made, calling it “strangely disturbing.” Today, there are numerous interpretations of The Shining, many of them documented in the film Room 237 which attempts to uncover the true meaning behind Kubrick’s vision.

I've mentioned this a few times in the Stephen King thread, but as a King fan I personally prefer the 1997 mini-series with Steven Weber (the "Wings" guy). It was much truer to King's novel. The book was divided at least fifty-fifty on what drove Jack to madness, the booze or the supernatural. And that's what the mini-series did.

Conversely, the 1980 Kubrick version was a straight-up horror film that stressed the supernatural element. That said, on its own, the 1980 Kubrick version is still a very good film, Nicholson's hammy, over-the-top performance notwithstanding.

I think King really hated Kubrick's version and that is why he wanted the mini series made. You are correct in Kubrick's version I believe that Nicholson character seems more unhinged from the get go where as in the books he slowly goes crazy. That being said I really enjoy Kubrick s version. And I really want to check out the mini series just to see what it is like and the differences. I read the book a long time ago and it is amazing but I need to re read it
