Looking at IMDB, you're absolutely right. From 1992-99, he had "Glengarry Glen Ross," "Carlito's Way," "Scent of a Woman," "Heat," "Donnie Brasco," "The Devil's Advocate," "The Insider," and "Any Given Sunday." That's a pretty strong string of roles, no matter who the actor is.

He does "Insomnia," and then it's like his film choices just cratered.

I watched Grudge Match with Stallone and DeNiro. Well, it'll never be a classic, but it was watchable. Of course, I'll watch any film that's made in Pittsburgh as part of this movie was.

It had the potential to be a good movie, but it never quite got off the ground. By the way, in closeups, Stallone's face is showing more than age; it appears to be showing injury. At 60 though, Kim Bassinger looked pretty good. I don't know what to say about DeNiro. Maybe some movie stars accept roles just for the fun of it.

Something must be up with DeNiro. He never made a lot of movies. He took his time with his movie projects.

Now he is putting a bunch of crap out, the family that garbage with John travolta I just don't get it.

Either he needs money and will do any project to get it. He's I'll and wants to just make a ton of movies before he goes.

But one thing is certain the quality of his work is crap now.

Damn, Oli. I forgot to pm you about that movie, if only for the Pittsburgh connection. I was pleasantly surprised, though.

It had a lot of problems, most of which you've mentioned. But I thought Alan Arkin stole the film from DeNiro and Stallone (much like he stole "Stand Up Guys" from Pacino and Walken).

KIm still looks pretty good. The kid who played her son did a decent job, too.

High Noon is on tonight. I know that the older Board members have seen it. It is quite a classic, but I don't think it gets the recognition that it should. In any case, it's theme song is one of the best ever and Gary Cooper was perfect in the role.

Also PB, the more I watch Grudge Match, the more I like it. Stallone repeated some of things he did in Rocky such as eating the egg yolks. Just like in Rocky, he started out not being able to lift the tire, but near the end he succeeded. Also, there was the scene where Arkin slapped him in the face just like his manager did in Rocky. You're right about Arkin; he kind of stole the show.

High noon what a beautiful women Grace Kelly was fantastic. That writter was a black listed writer so they gave the writing credit to some one else. That some one else won the academy award for that movie for something he did not even write.

Gary Cooper was a great actor in this and in Sargent York and other movies. But with friends like him who needed enemies? He gave up his friends to the unamerican activities hearings.

The title song was great the singer was I think tex Ritter the son of the actor John Ritter remember him he died young.

Arkin is a great actor. He was also in the movie with Pacino and walkin in stand up guys.

He was fantastic in Argo.

His best work was when he was younger popi, heart s a lonely hunter he is 80 years old.

These older guys can't get much work Which is stupid.

Shows like ray Donavan uses a lot of older actors fun to see them act again. Ann Margarett was on the show for an episode man she looks great for a women her age. When I see a women like that I don't see an old women I see her the way she was when she was a young women.

People mistakenly think older people are old. They are old if they think old. What a bunch of fucking idiots they are who think that. A lot of us are still 20 in our heads. We still do everything young people do, but it takes us a little longer to do it. Which might be a good thing.

footreads, youre right about tex ritter, but, I had no idea that gary cooper gave up his friends in a huac session. I know elia Kazan did. I cant think of anything worse than giving up your friends, anyone who does it is a bottom feeder. as far as newer movies go, 'the lone survivor" is excellent.

Great movie. But it's all subjective. I think "The In-Laws" was Arkin's best work. Same goes for Peter Falk.

The purple heart was that sham trial by the japanese after the counter attack on Japan right after pearl Harbour. I dont know if that trial was based on fact or not. They made at least 6 movies on that counter attack. I think the last one was that Movie Pearl harbor.

Richard Conte should have been a big star but it never really happened for him. My favorite Richard Conte movie was 13 Rue Madeleliene with James Cagney.

That's the one, psycho. But "The Purple Heart" held the distinction of being made while the war was still on. So Nationalism was at its peak (which is a good thing).

Agreed. I loved him in everything he ever did. He was great in "Ocean's 11."

His grandson is a safety for the Bears now. Tough kid. He plays a little dirty. But you like that, psycho grin.

Plays a little dirty yes I do like that. Well he is on the right team then. Loved watching Dick Butkus he was a freaking animal as a player. When his knees started to go. Players stopped trying to cut him at the knees except the center of the Pittsburg Steelers he hated him wanted to put him in a wheel chair.

Last night I was flipping channels away from the Giants game (puking sound) and landed on "No Country for Old Men". What a great flick. Those Coen Brothers are whacky. Last week it was "Fargo". They really cast the right people and the dialogue is spot on.

Pretty good Richard Conte movie was thieves highway.

Conte just left the service and was going home. His father was a truck driver ade his living by bringing loaded of food like apples to market.his father had an accident became a cripple before conte got home. No one told him about it. Forget how but Cobb got the, load and never paid his father

One of the big market owners was a crook played by the great lee jay Cobb.

So conte gets a truck with a partner and delivers Snothrr load to Cobb. But he wants the money from his fathers last load.

Something like that I can't remember all of it.

But towards the end a big fight scene between Cobb and Conte.

If I remember it right that fight scene rivals the one with Cobb and Brando in on the water front.

It was a good movie.
