The Mafia Is Not Primarily An Organisation Of Murderers.
First And Foremost,The Mafia Is Made Up Of Thieves.
It Is Driven By Greed And Controlled By Fear.

Great idea for a thread my Nottingham friend.

A few that automatically spring to mind come from Oasis. I'm not a huge fan but Noel has great songwriting skills, especially with lyrics. He'll use a ton of oxymorons and then more. "Slowly walking down the hall, Faster than a cannon ball"

But one line from 'Little by Little' really stands out:

"But my God woke up on the wrong side of his bed"

Bruce Springsteen deserves a mention too. "But tramps like us, baby we were born to run"

Michael: "Turnbull is a good man"

I'm more of a "sappy song" person. Here are some of my favorites.

The one my heart and soul confided in. The one who knew just what to say to make me laught again. - "I miss my friend" - Darryl Worley/

The movement you need is on your shoulder - Hey Jude - The Beatles

I like the bed I'm sleeping in. Just like me it's broken in. It's not old, just older. - Just older - BonJovi

How about a little less questions and a lot more shut the hell up - Brian Griffin

When there's a will...put me in it.

Off the top of my head, just a few:

"They stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast." Eagles - Hotel California

"Oh my love my darlin'. I've hungered for your touch." Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers (One of the most beautiful songs made IMHO)

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" Rolling Stones

I've always liked the following line from Paul McCartney's 'My Love':

"Only my love holds the other key...to me."

Incidentally, since it was mentioned:

I like the line and have always loved the song but WHAT exactly does that mean...the meat is too rare??? The hotel is whacky? Too many drugs???

Apple [/b][/quote]According to the attached link (which is really interesting), that line was a reference to "Steely Dan" who was under the same management as the Eagles.

Glen Frye said the song is somewhat like an episode of The Twilight Zone, which kind of is the way I interpreted it. I thought it'd make a good horror flick. No matter what the Eagles intended, I think it's one of those songs that is fun to intepret.

Anyway, check out the link, if interested.

Thanks, TIS...Twilight Zone, good analagy. Frankly, that's how I had interpreted it as well.

Great website, too; I've already bookmarked it!!

Vanished from my hand,
Left me blindly here to stand but still not sleeping.
My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,

And the ancient empty street's too dead for dreaming.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you."

It's fairly new, but I just LOVE this line from John Mayer's song "Daughters"

"On behalf of every man
Looking out for every girl
You are the god and the weight of her world..."

nice.

The Bright Side Of The Road
I always liked the line from She's Leaving Home by The Beatles:

"Leaving the note that she hoped would say more"

Also from Fairytale of New York by The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl (the best Christmas song ever!)

"I could have been someone, well so could anyone
You took my dreams from me when I first found you
I kept them with me babe, I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone, I've built my dreams around you."

Tom: "They shot Sonny on the causeway...he's dead."
Michael: "Turnbull is a good man"
Shane MacGowan: "It was Christmas Eve babe, in the drunk tank"
