Does anybody know if the movie Heat with Pacino & De Niro ever comes on cable TV? If it does, who owns the rights? Same thing with Se7en.

It shows on HBO.

Freddy's Dead.

Many think its one of the weakest entries in the A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise, but personally its one of my favorites.

Watched "Lincoln" over the weekend. I had been wanting to see it, but just had not gotten around to it.

Prior to watching the movie, I was not sure whether it would be a bio-pic or if it would focus only on his presidency. Similar films tend to conduct flashback scenes dating as far back as to the character's youth ("Nixon" comes to mind). But "Lincoln" was essentially centered around a 4-6 months period in 1865 when the Civil War was ending and Lincoln's fight to have the 13th Amendment passed.

There were two actors from "Boardwalk Empire" who I recognized: Michael Stuhlbarg (Arnold Rothstein) and Peter McRobbie (FBI Supervisor) in "Lincoln." Tommy Lee Jones, one of the better actors of the past 25 years, gave a great performance of Thaddeus Stevens.

It wasn't the greatest movie I have ever seen, but it was a well-done film about President Lincoln's struggles to convince Dems & Republicans that the country needed to pass the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery.

3.5 out of 5 stars

I like the one. My personal favorite is Dream Warriors. It as well written, had good characters and was at times creepy

Over the holiday I watched James Cagney in The Gallant Hours. It was about Admiral Bull Halsey's command of Pacific forces after Pearl Harbor. It's an interesting (if strange) production. It's partially narrated and for most of it there is an acapella score almost constantly in the background (most irritating).

I think it was meant as a tribute to Halsey, but it was more like a documentary than a movie.

When Lincoln was first elected president in 1860 he supported a much different 13th Amendment, one which specifically stated that the US Congress is prohibited from abolishing or interfering with state controlled slavery. Lincoln opposed slavery in the territories because white laborers could not compete with slaves and white businessmen could not compete economically with slaveholders.

Lincoln, like many of his contemporaries, was more concerned with preserving the union than abolishing slavery. As the CSA was forming early in his first term, Lincoln supported the Amendment, which was passed by Congress and ratified by Ohio and Maryland, and would certainly have been ratified by 3/4 of the states. The movement came to an end with Fort Sumter.

Lincoln thought that a Constitutional Amendment that rendered Congress powerless on the issue of abolishing slavery would perhaps have averted a Civil War and restored the Union. He thought that as the nation eventually expanded, new states would eventually oppose slavery and state conventions would create an amendment some day abolishing slavery without congressional involvement. Nonetheless if Lincoln's original 13th Amendment had prevented the Civil War and restored the union, slavery would have been practiced in the US into the 20th century.

And his legacy would be different.

Kly, sometimes we fail to recognize preservation of the Union as Lincoln's primary objective. From his 1862 letter to Horace Greeley: "My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery." Even his Emancipation Proclamation of that same year exempting border slave states from its provisions is further evidence of Lincoln's purpose.

It's this history that tends to get buried in our rush to elevate certain historical figures to a certain pinnacle.

Over the weekend, once again I watched Pope of Greenwich Village. Eric Roberts' performance was outstanding, of best supporting actor quality.

The Wolf Of Wall Street

Good movie, everything Scorsese works on turns to gold. Love the scene where hes took too many lemons and has to crawl.

I wonder how many takes it took to get that scene right. I would be so tempted to bust out laughing.

Guardians of the Galaxy. It's a super-hero movie made by Marvel but is also just as much a comedy. Great soundtrack too.

Insomnia (2002), with Al Pacino and Robin Williams, is a fantastic movie. Al Pacino's last great role. The Recruit, with Colin Farrell, a year after this, was only good.

I invoke my right under the 5th amendment of the United States constitution and decline to answer the question.

I agree. Insomnia is indeed a really good film. I could almost feel what Pacino's character was going through without sleep. William's character was almost the quintessential seedy villain. I also enjoyed Hillary Swank.

"Insomnia" was great -- I think that was Christopher Nolan's film immediately after "Memento." Robin Williams had two outstanding performances as villains that year, "One Hour Photo" was the other.

If you ever get a chance, Nolan's film was a remake of a Norwegian film (same title) starring Stellan Skarsgard. The original is excellent as well, much more focused on Skarsgard dealing with his psychological downslide.
