Making a movie about the Accardo jewelry heist. DeNiro as Accardo... not bad!

Wow, maybe this will finally be a great Chicago mob film! They never seem to make movies on Chicago besides Casino, but that was mostly Vegas. I remember reading a few months back about a family secrets movie, but who knows if that'll ever pan out.

With DeNiro doing this and the Hoffa movie with Scorsese maybe there will finally be another good batch of mob movies. It's been a long time since there's been a very good mob movie.

Downside is that the prick from Twilight is in it but the upside is that he'll probably die in the movie.

I hope they get someone good as a technical advisor - I still have my doubts about it.

No, but I'm extremely tough on mob movies but "cheap" mob movies make me cringe. Casino is my all-time favorite.

It definitely won't be that great. It's about an event that just happened to take place in Chicago to an Outfit boss, not the Outfit itself. Doesn't sound all that different from Casino, which, aside from Pesci actually working a competent Grand Avenue accent, was very lackluster.

I really wish they'd make a Chicago Mafia worth a piss one of these days. About Taylor Street during the 50s/60s, Aiuppa/Ferriola/Carlisi's Cicero during the 60's/70s/80s, or Chinatown under the LaPietra family. Or Lombardo's Grand Avenue during the 70s/80s. They'd need to include the heavy Chicago accents, the unique Outfit attire, and tons of Chicago idiosyncrasies & quirks. That would be actually be interesting.

Calabrese, Jr was in talks with HBO/showtime or one of those networks to produce a series or a TV film. But that probably won't ever happen. And then there's Mark Wahlberg's planned adaptation of Cooley's book, but there hasn't been any word on that in quite a while. It probably wouldn't have been legit anyways.

Oh Well. Guess I'll just have to start penning my own damn Outfit film or TV series!

Not to say that Casino wasn't a solid film. Just not a solid Outfit film. If you could even call it that.

The only legitimate films/series on Chicago crime I've seen were the show 'Crime Story' & 'The Last Rites Of Joe May'. Not surprisingly, both starred one Mr. Dennis Farina. RIP.

Casino never mentioned "Chicago" once during the entire movie. Your fun fact for the day!

Huron wouldn't know a good movie if it hit him over the head with a baseball bat in the middle of a cornfield...

Kind of a weird idea for a film. A group of what can only be described as retards rob arguably one of the most powerful mob bosses in the US and end up getting their faces fried with blowtorches and their throats slit. This when they could make a film about "Mad Sam" DeStefano... smile

Hopefully it actually has a mafia element to it and it's not focused 100% on the robbery.

Exactly, make a film about the DeStefano crew or something.

The Sam Giancana film with John Turtorro was absolutely abysmal. No one saw it and neither should you guys.

This is kind of my sentiment. Of all the Outfit stories... I mean, no doubt, it is an amazing piece of Chicago lore... and unbelievable.

But from what I know about it, it's pretty much what you describe.

A group of robbers make the galactically insane decision to rob one of the most powerful mob bosses in the country and are all subsequently murdered.

And, yeah, Patterson plays Mandell... who definitely was killed.

I guess if it's true to the story, someone will be playing Frank Calabrese, if they show the murder.

I don't have high hopes with Pattinson in the lead role..plus a good mob flick is very dependent on having a good director.

And Casino is a masterpiece.

I'm sure its gonna be good, and if I'm not mistaken a lot of guys were in on the murders so im sure In the day and age we'll get the characters storys from both sides, I bet they make Accardo look like one cold bastard. I cant wait to see it. The last rights of joe may was a good flick.

DeNiro was awesome as Victor Tellegio in American Hustle.

Deniro won't be able to nail Tony Accardo's shit-thick Grand Avenue accent.

Dennis Franz, on the other hand...

The thing is the story isn't all that interesting. Like at all. It was absurd, that's for sure. But the criminals weren't interesting people, they were just boneheads. It was also very quickly resolved, not something that would lend itself to a feature length picture. Maybe a short.

Hopefully they don't make them out to be geniuses, although they had to have some degree of smarts to break into Accardo's fortress. Let's call it more balls than brains.

Don't forget, these guys stole from the Outfit twice and they were lucky they didn't get their throats cut the first time.

Also, DeNiro is currently only one year younger (70) than Accardo was at the time of the robbery.

When he played Jimmy Burke he was calling Henry Hill a dozen times a day asking how Burke held his cigarette, etc. I think DeNiro can do anything!

They weren't dumb. They went there to get their own loot back.
I've always felt that Mendell & Moretti knew they were dead men the day Accardo knew they were the guys who robbed Levinson.
Robbing Tony was their version of the Boston tea party.

No street taxation wihout representation.
