The other day, I watched The Leopard with Burt Lancaster as an Italian prince in 1860s Italy trying to save his family as Garibaldi tried to unite Italy. Some critics consider Lancaster's performance to be one of his best. I wasn't impressed. Some might consider it miscasting. However, hearing his dubbed Italian was somewhat amusing.

"The Glenn Miller Story" is on TCM right now. Louie Armstrong is doing "Basin Street" as I type this, and there goes Gene Krupa on the drums. Great stuff smile .

Being followed by "The Stratton Story". The movie is usually made fun of for being one of those really sappy biopics made popular in the '40s, but it's best part (for me) was when the opposing team started to bunt on the invalid Stratton. ohwell

I'm pissed that TCM aired "The Childrens' Hour" yesterday and I didn't get to DVR it. (a truly wonderful movie with Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine).

I'm watching that now, too. I've also seen it at least half-a-dozen times. I just love Jimmy Stewart smile .

That makes three of us. I happened to stumble on it last night and watched it. Yes, it's sappy and overly sentimental, but Jimmy Stewart, Frank Morgan, June Allyson and Agnes Moorehead can do wonders on the screen.

By the way, I occasionally run through the TCM listings over the upcoming days or week, and I noticed that recently there have been many movies based on literary classics: The Scarlet Letter, Jane Eyre, The Three Musketeers and The Age of Innocense, to name a few.

Did any of you catch TMC's showing of several of Robert Mitchum's movies? He was not only a superb actor, but one of those array of leading men who populated the silver screen in the 40s and 50s and dominated any movie in which they appeared. Today's so-called leading men can't begin to compare. I especially like his Thunder Road and Heaven Knows Mr. Allison.

I usually do that, too. Next Monday they'll be airing, "The Joker is Wild", an extraordinary movie with Frank Sinatra portraying Joe E. Lewis, the comedian who had started his career as a singer until Chicago mobsters cut his throat and he had to give up singing. It's a true story and it's a great one. Also, it's one of Sinatra's best roles.

Watch the movies that you never heard of chances are you will dig them. Is there any bad movies on that channel?

I forget when movies are on TCM. So I ordered TCM tv guide subscription for a year it took a month to get it. I have received two so far they come out every month. I keep forgetting to look at them last night Sergeant York was on missed 90 percent of it.

Their website puts up a month's listings at a time: http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html

We do tend to focus on TCM movies (and present ones) that achieved a certain level of popular appeal. Of course, most of them are from the black and white era. However, there are so many that Hollywood produced that, indeed, most of us have never heard of. Sometimes I will search out obscure movies starred in by some of my favorite actors. I also try to notice the names of unheralded cast members and then search for them on the web to see what happened to them. I guess that when they were awarded a part in a movie that they thought they were on their way to stardom. Of course, that's also true of today's actors.

I just recorded "He walked at night" supposedly a 4 star movie and started to watch it but had to go take my friend to the hospital so was only able to see 5-10 minutes. Really looking forward to it. Also love "Dead Reconing" with Bogie. Actually love about any Bogart movie

Any body know the story how Turner got this channel?

I heard a howard stern interview with Larry king. And Larry was telling stories. He's got great ones. So he says ted bought a movie studio from some guy. I forget which one. I'm sure u can look it up. Anyway he decides he doesn't like the movie business and that it's slow money. He sells it back to the same guy for a loss. The guy is happy to do the deal it's basically free money. One condition he gets to keep the rights to these old movies. The guy figures who cares about these old movies. TCM was born.

Not sure the truth. Heard it on howard a year ago.

Got to watch He walked at night this afternoon which I recorded last week on TM. It was a very good crime story and I think one of Jack Webb's earliest ,movies. A murder mystery of course. A couple more of my favorites are Violent Saturday and Kiss of death, both starring Victor Mature.
