Just asking because most Americans are somewhat familiar with the old New York "accent." I say old because it's disappearing with the recent influx of mid-westerners here in the city.

They say the same thing is happening with philly. The philly accent i think is one of the most distinguished accents on the east coast and the most hardest to impersonate. But theyre saying that with all influx of the fucking hipsters its just a matter of time before they destroy it.

Yeah, it's interesting how NY and Philadelphia are only about 100 miles apart, but talk like two different countries.

It's funny how being from south Philly I never thought that I had an accent and once I went away to school and met people from other places I realized that we do sound a lot different then everyone else

Were there different dialects of the Brooklyn accent? Did Canarsie sound different than Bay Ridge?

Also, I work a lot in Jersey, especially near Perth Amboy/Sayerville area. No one has the "Jersey" accent portrayed in the Sopranos.

I thought that was Gandolfini's one failing in that role. In the first season he had no accent at all. Then he went completely over the top with his "mudda" and everything else.

And don't get me started about how Carmela called Tony's girlfriend his Gooo-Marr, with a hard arrr. Ridiculous. Italian American slang sounds like goo-mod. The second syllable should sound like the mod in Mod Squad.

There have been a couple of interviews of Dominic Montiglio on TV. Also if you watch "Mobsters" on TV, occasionally they interview someone from the crew and you can hear the accent. I would suspect that DeMeo, Senter Etc all sound very much like Dominic. Hope this helps.
