That's what I'm doing. I drop it off on Thursday and waiting to hear back from them. Hopefully they can retrieve it all!

Ok, so the place I brought my external hard drive couldn't do the data recovery. They had the same problem I had where once the hard drive was plugged in, it would basically freeze any program from working. They said I should try a place that specializes in data recovery but before I spend some money (I hear it's not cheap), can anyone think of any last ditch efforts I could try?

At this point all I can suggest is thoroughly checking CNET for software solutions.

By the way, have you tried hooking that drive up to another pc? Also, does windows explorer recognize it?

What type of solutions? What should I be looking for exactly?

Try typing in something like bad drives or drive recovery or data recovery.

Microsoft will end Windows 7 support in January. I use 7, but do any of you use 8? How is it?

I have Windows 7 also but am sure my next computer will be Windows 8 since I hear they won't be making 7 anymore.

My daughter just got a new computer that's an 8. Anyway, I have only used it a few times. It's got a totally different look with the desktop looking like an I-Phone with lots of apps. It'll take a bit to get use to but my daughter is happy with it.

Since the Windows 8.1(update 1) update, you make Windows 8 act and look more like Windows 7. You can also install a free program called "Classic Shell" which pretty much makes Windows 8 exactly like Windows 7. That's what I use since I can't stand Windows 8's user interface.

Critical and security updates will continue until 2020 though.
Windows 8 sucks on a desktop, but there are ways around it.

That's good to know. I'd be tempted to do just that when I get Windows 8. Thanks JL. Nice to see you around again. Hope all is well with you. smile

Great there really going to end 7? These companies are really trying to push for people to spend more $$$. They stopped making the MS Office 2010 which is better then the new one imo

Have any Board members had experience with free web-hosting services? Any comments appreciated.

I've been getting this message a lot lately and am not sure what to do or what it is.

"A plug-in (Shockwave) isn't responding
." I see an option to "Stop shockwave" (which I do) but see no other options.

Do you know what it is and is it something I need? If so, what do I do? confused

Thank you

TIS, do you use Chrome? In any case, you may have installed several flash type players that conflict. You can disable the Chrome one because it's built into Chrome.

This stuff is too complicated for me. I need stuff done I call my son to hook me up literally.

What I really dislike is when they improve an app on my iPad. Then I can not use the app on my iPad any more. Because the iPad is an older version.

What do they expect I throw out a perfectly good iPad and get a newer version so I can use their improved apps?

My answer to them is fuck them and the app they rode in on.

Thanks DonMega. Now that I think about it, I remember having similar issues (a while back) after downloading/updating Adobe. AND just recently, after ignoring several notices to update Adobe,I finally did just recently and that's when these issues started. rolleyes I ended up uninstalling the latest update. So far so good.

Thanks

I'm interested in starting a website; nothing fancy. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Is there a cost?

Can anyone recommend a video downloader, one that will work with videos from any site not just Youtube? I've been searching CNET, but I'd like to avail myself of one that a Board member has used successfully.

This is what I use olivant for Firefox and I've never had a problem with it. And it'll work on other sites, not just YouTube. Hope it helps!

I asked this question about a year ago and never got an answer. Someone else though recommended WIX. I looked at it and even though I haven't tried it yet, it looks manageable.
