I'm not sure what category this belongs in. Today I passed a local "gentlemen's club" called Volcanic Eruptions , that advertised, "Kick a 30 yard field goal and win a couch dance". In a grass area next to the parking lots was a blow-up goal post. Wow, some promotion. I spent the afternoon at the high school practicing my kick. I made 7 out of 10. Yogi, can you make the trip? A soccer dad like you sure be a lock.

About twenty-five years ago I won a bet by kicking a 40 yard field goal at a high school field. The ball landed squarely on the cross bar, bounced straight up and barely crossed the bar for a field goal. My older brother was a high school kicker, who kicked barefoot when that was in vogue in college and the pros around 1978-80. He can still easily kick 30 yard field goals. I should send him your way.

My oldest son's best friend, a lovely nineteen-year old girl named Peyton, died unexpectedly yesterday. She went to a high school near us and was a year younger than my son. She decided to go to my son's college where she was a sophomore.

The initial finding is that she died of natural causes. She had been treated by doctors for some cardiac irregularities, but her death was shocking. I've seen her many times at our house, and I can never remember her when she wasn't smiling.

An hour after we received this heartbreaking news, my wife and I received a call that our younger son had suffered a second seizure in two months. He has an appointment with a neurologist Monday morning to see if this can be managed.

Difficult weekend.

I am so sorry. The unexpected death of someone so young makes even the young step back and realize how precious life is.

As for your son, I pray he is ok. Is he prone to seizures or is this new? My prayers are with you.

Mary is that the club on the Black Horse Pike towards the shore? I think i've passed that place a couple times myself but have never went in....just passed it on my to the shore towns.

But i think i might be able to kick a 30 yarder with a little practice. I get some free lap dances if i can do it? lol!

Sorry to hear about your son's seizures Klydon. I have a relative who gets those and i know how bad they can get. I hope everything works out for him.

Thanks Mary. On second thought it may not be such a good idea. Somehow i don't think the wife will buy the story i'm practicing kicking field goals for my big tryout with the Eagles.

The girl's family is devastated. The college is holding a funeral service tomorrow and her family will hold another service and viewing back home. My son and a bunch of his friends from school will be staying over our house this weekend as a local ski resort where she worked is having a celebration of her life Saturday. What a beautiful, pleasant and bright girl.

On the other front my younger son was seen by a neurologist, who rendered a preliminary diagnosis of epilepsy. She determined that the August episode was trigered by steroid medication, which had been prescribed for a rash on his leg. An MRI in a few weeks with a follow up will determine a more definitive diagnosis and plan for treatment, but onething is apparent: he'll have to deal with the condition for the rest of his life. Right now he's a little upset that he's not allowed to drive for another 6 months.

On a humorous note, when he had his recent seizure at Penn State, he was at a costume party dressed as a pimp. His buddy was dressed as a nurse with a blonde wig and padded bra. The two went in the ambulance together, and his buddy waited several hours in the waiting room in costume. They took a cab back to the dorms still in costume that morning.

Sorry to hear about both of those things, Kly... Poor girl's family! And I'm hoping with the right meds and lifestyle, your boy will have minimal complications throughout his life.

Just breaking, a shooting in the Garden State Plaza Mall in New Jersey. As of this moment, they don't have shooter. It's past 10 p.m. there. Are the malls open that late.

Hope they get this guy.

MY youngest Son Ryan was diagnosed with the same thing. His doc put him on Topamax. The side effects were sleepiness and he wasn't able to sweat. The summers were hard on him. The doc took him off the med he's been off for a couple years now and hasn't had any more seizures. Sending good thoughts for your Son. MY sympathies for that girl and her family.

Thank you, kind sir. If anything, Peyton's untimely and tragic death gives us perspective in dealing with my son's health concerns. Our worries and inconvenience are trivial when we see the anguish, with which her family must deal.

Her sister had just been voted homecoming queen at Duquesne University, and Peyton was every bit as lovely, kind and generous as her sister.

Thank you, Mig. My son's medication also made him sleepy. He knows it will take some time to adjust. It's encouraging to know that your son has been seizure free for years after the medication was discontinued. I will pass this thought on to my son.

Sorry to hear your sad news Klyd.

I'm not sure what my cousin takes these days but i know his doctor at one time had him on something called Dilantin. He always complained how tired it made him feel especially when they upped the dosage on him. Seizures suck...i was there once when he had one and felt absolutely helpless. Luckily his brother and sister were there too and knew what to do.

Dear Klyd, so very sorry to hear your news. I can't imagine what Peyton's parents are going through, and my heart goes out to them. I'm sure this hasn't been easy for your family either.

So sorry about your son's health issues, but they have made tremendous strides regarding epilepsy. Although the medication can have less than pleasant side effects, it's very manageable.
