I did get to see Blacklist yesterday and did enjoy it. I don't remember when I last saw him, but James Spader sure looked different? What happened to his hair (or lack of it)? lol Anyway, it was good

Speaking of the new season. I checked to see when Bates Motel returns and it's not til sometime in 2014. Damn!! Talk about a long time between seasons. rolleyes I really hate the way cable shows have such huge breaks between seasons.

Ya I was also surprised to see James spaded with no hair. I think the last time I saw him in something was the second to last season of the office(he had a full head of hair then)

If Wo Fat turns out to be McGarrett's brother on "Hawaii Five 0," I might be done watching it. What a silly and tired plot device that would turn out to be.

And I can't stand Christine Lahti as McGarrett's mother, which is weird because I've always liked her as a character actress. But the character is ridiculous and very unsympathetic. I mean, what kind of woman walks out of her kids lives for twenty years, then just shows back up like nothing ever happened?

And I don't care if her family was threatened or not. There's not a chance in hell that any woman in my family (mother, wife, aunts, etc.) would ever leave. Frankly, I hope they kill her off. But I know they won't.

And Kono better be back soon! She's just so damn hot lol.

PB,

I caught the season opener as well. I agree about McGarrett's mom and also like Christine Lahti, but yes she comes off as very unsympathetic & strange. confused And what the heck with Wo Fat being his brother? uhwhat That came out of nowhere.

I look at the show (as I do White Collar) as light drama and oh, ok, a little eye candy too. lol Not to mention the gorgeous shots of Hawaii. My God, they can be driving to the dump and the background scenes are spectacular. I do like Kono and the entire cast. My brother can't stand Danno cause he gets a little annoying. LOL I didn't hear that Kono was leaving the show. I hope not.

Oh, and what about the huge fat guy friend of theirs? That runs the restaurant? I can't think of his name, but he's kind of comical. I like him too.

Your brother has a point, Tis. I can take him in small doses. But he's at his most annoying when he tries too hard to be his father (his hand gestures just seem unnatural, where on his father they're a part of who he is).

He almost reminds me of Liza Minelli trying too hard to be Judy Garland. Now that analogy might be a little gay, but what the hell lol.

Yeah can't wait for season 2, where among other things we'll get another DC superhero in The Flash in an episode that'll be a backdoor pilot for his own spin-off program.

Meanwhile, Marvel introduced their own program earlier this week in AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., probably the most promoted of ABC's new crop. Ties officially into the same continuity shared with the Marvel films (Iron Man, The Avengers, etc.) and from Joss Whedon.

Agree with previous comments about McGarret's mother, ruined the third series.

Also enjoyed the first series of Arrow and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just started here last night. The kids want to watch that so I will as well probably!

We seem to get the US shows very quickly now, used to take months.

Caught Ron Howard's new film RUSH yesterday. Surprisingly exceptional, his best work since APOLLO 13. I know dick about Formula One, yet this story enraptured me with this intense rivalry between two drivers of two different nations, backgrounds, and personalities, along with the sub-culture of suicidal machomania that they're kings of.

It really reminded me of THE RIGHT STUFF, except race car drivers instead of test pilots. But regardless its about men in a deadly profession driven by ego in competition against each other and themselves in a contest of human endurance. There is courage to do such professions for a living, and the 3rd act of RUSH (which is a visceral triumph) is marked by two very brave (and contradictory) decisions made by both drivers in that final race in Japan, which would determine who is 1976 F1 world champion.

I suppose it's not a "great" film technically, even if its quite possibly Howard's best and most ambitious filmatic work, perhaps just a very very very good film. But I lost myself in a Howard film, which honestly was the last thing I expected in a Oscar baiting prospect from a guy who can be a notorious Oscar (master) baiter. It's pleasant when people can surprise you beyond your expectations.

Regardless, this is a must-see I highly recommend. Daniel Bruhl is already talked about as an Oscar contender, and he does have the baitiest part. But Chris Hemsworth deserves some credit too for playing immaculately a playboy stud with a million dollar smile. Both compelling leads that make you follow them, even if they're both dickish characters honestly, and you absolutely buy (beyond merely an artificial device) that they despise each other, even if its tinged with respect.

I'm watching a rerun of The Big Bang Theory 6th season finale where Leonard is embarking on a research voyage. Penney and Sheldon drive him to the airport and at the airport Sheldon tells Penney that she's parked in the red zone; the white zone is for loading and unloading. I wonder how many fans caught that homage to the movie Airplane?

Does anyone know much about the upcoming TNT series Mob City? It's supposed to be about Mickey Cohen.

I caught it the first time I saw that episode, Oli. But that only proves that I'm almost as ancient as you are lol.

And being that you love to bust my stones about Throggs Neck so much, I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you that the Sheldon character on that show is from Texas. And I have a sneaking suspicion that Raj, Leonard and Howard have roots in Pittsburgh tongue grin.

Well PB, I'm not ancient; I'm sublime.

Yessirree Bob! Sheldon is from Texas, Houston to be exact both in character and as Jim Parsons. if the rest of the cast is from Pgh. (Pria is), how fortunate for them.

By the way, the History channel has a series about American slang. It was interesting to find out where many gangster type words originated.

Usually, AMC airs the GF during a holiday. But it's on today. I wonder what occasioned its airing.

Another UK show, so I don't know if you can get it on your side but it is called WHITECHAPEL and it is really good. Been a couple of series now but it is a cop drama with a good, spooky side twist. Set in Whitechapel, home of Jack the Ripper and the Krays it features spooky East London streets, copycat killers and various strange storylines with links to previous crimes. Current series features haunted police stations, Ed Gein skin mask wearers and cannibals in the sewers. All based on true stories I am sure lol

Seriously, me and my good lady love it, well worth a search and certainly well worth a watch!! Comes with a Yogi guarantee stamp of approval. A YGSA!!

Yogi,

I've seen the listing of that show and it does sound interesting. I just hate tuning in the middle of the storylines. How many seasons has it been on? I may be able to catch it on "On Demand" if it's in it's first season.

Thanks Yogi. I think I'll check it out when they start from the beginning.

Has anyone seen any new shows yet? I can't say I've seen any new ones but am tuning in to season two of "Person of Interest" (missed the last episode tho); I can't get enough of Law & Order (SVU). What can I say, I like all the L&Os. smile I am looking forward also to season two of Arrow which is on tonight; White Collar next week and of course the best of the best IMHO, Walking Dead comes back on Sunday.

You kidding me? They've only had 3 episodes. LOL OMG!! Every time I like a show it goes down the tubes. rolleyes Thanks for the heads up. I do hope it wraps up the story instead of leaving viewers hanging like with "The Event" last year. I sure can pick them. lol

We Are Men has been canceled after two episodes, TVGuide.com has learned.

In its place, 2 Broke Girls — which hit a series low of 7.2 million viewers and a 2.2 on Monday night — will move to the 8:30/7:30c timeslot, followed by The Big Bang Theory repeats until Mike & Molly premieres on Nov. 4. There's no word yet on the fate of the network's new drama Hostages, which slid to a dangerously low 5.2 million viewers and a 1.2 on Monday.

We Are Men follows the recently axed Lucky 7, which ABC pulled off the scheduled after two episodes. Hostages is in trouble.

I watched the 1965 movie "Bunny Lake is Missing" a few days ago with Laurence Olivier playing a Scotland Yard detective. Without giving away the ending, I thought the movie was excellent for the first 3/4, but fell apart with one of the strangest,, most unbelievable plot twists ever.

Kly, I vaguely remember Bunny Lake and not really sure if I ever saw it (or at least all of it). If I'm not mistaken, Carol Linley is in it? Don't know why I remember that but I do. confused

SB,

I did see that Hostages is on it's death bed. Damn, and it was pretty good too. I hate to get too into it. I haven't seen it (fortunately it seems) but they are also cancelling Ironside. It seems they could give some shows a a little longer before they cancel them.

I remember Bunny Lake, but not much about it.

TIS, one critic asked how realistic it was to hold a family hostage for a year.

Yea, I hear you but the series so far is only a matter of days. Plus, the show 24 was a whole season covering 1 day. One might think how can any one event in one day (ie terror attack) take a year long in a tv series? confused

Anyway, it's on tonight, and I'll watch but am waiting for the ol ax to come down. LOL

So I caught an old rerun of THE FUGITIVE the other night and Jack Lord was the guest star. The one TV cop you would think would finally nab Dr. Richard Kimble, and he plays a drunk. So much for law enforcement in that universe.

I was watching TCM the other day. It was a movie about a guy who could send out a beast to kill people. It might have been a Jekyll & Hyde movie. I remember one scene where a guy comes out of his garage and off in the distance he can see this beast begin to materialize and it kills him. the beast was a real horrid looking thing that looked like a gigantic horned werewolf. Does that ring a bell with anyone?
