Here is a small article in this magazine that I was subscribing to that's about IA history. At times they discuss organized crime. It's about a meeting that took place with members of the KC crime family of LCN.

A Meeting To Say Farewell by Joseph Zappala of Amici

A meeting was held on January 15, 2012, between some of the remaining members of the Kansas City crime family. They met at an Italian restaurant in Kansas City called "Garozzo's Restaurant." The men in attendance were John Sciortino, the boss, Peter Simone, the underboss, and William Cammisano, Jr., a capo in the crime family. These men were recorded by the Organized Crime Unit of the Kansas City Police Department, after keeping tabs on Simone's illegal activities. The cops were surprised to hear these men calling it quits after ruling organized crime in The City of Fountains for decades. They decided to put an end to their organization. These mobsters are three of the remaining made members left in the Kansas City area, there are ten made members in total.

That's all the article says pmac. It's in a magazine that i subscribed to. I'm upset myself that the writer didn't go into more detail of this.

Maybe these guys were smart enough to know they were being recorded and threw out a little misinformation.

Pmac, you would have to buy the January 2012 issue of this magazine. Not sure if It's online or not. But this writer does write about OC a lot. He might have a blog with his stuff. Really doubt he would make it all up. Hope that helps.

I don't know, the more I check it out,the more it sounds fishy. I've heard of Mob guys being recorded in their houses, cars, social clubs, etc, but how do the cops get a warrant to record in a public place? Unless one of the guys has flipped and is wearing a wire, how would they know where to put a bug? Garozzo's is a pretty popular restaurant,so how do they avoid recording conversations by the other diners in the place?

In order to pull this off,the cops have to know ahead of time who is going to be there, the time of arrival, and the table that they would be sitting at.Then they have to convince a Judge that there is enough probable cause, supported by oath or affidavit, to let them place the bug, then they have to get in and out before the meeting to plant the device.

Of course it is possible that the meeting was held when the restaurant was closed, which might make a difference. So I'll reserve judgement until more info comes forward, but for now,I don't know about this one.

You do make a great point, when bringing up the noise, although it depends on the times they were there, and knowing how great business owners treat known mobsters I wouldn't be surprised if these 3 guys had their own table away from other customers, which would have made it easy to hear what was being said.

Like Ivy and Hairy has been saying for the past few years now, there is not a viable family in KC anymore. It's over for them, so I think this definitely could have been real. Will take a picture of the article and attach it soon.

When I referred to recording the other diners in the restaurant,I was looking at it from a legal standpoint. If the bug picked up conversations from innocent patrons, the cops could be in a world of trouble for various civil and constitutional rights violations. I look forward to the article,I think it would be a cool read.

Sounds like another "frank cali is the boss" bullshit story. Some dick head reporter who takes a guess at something that may or may not happen.

Bugs get placed in restaurants all the time. Rigolettos, Goodfellas SI, Curves, Raos, joes on ave u, aldos.... Could go on and on.....

Even if you take face value, it's only three memberz "quitting", they might be Boss, UB and the capo and can dissolve their own organization. Could they have the authority to stop the other seven members from continuing their activities under their own cosa nostra structure if they really wanted too?

This report came only a year after Cammisano got busted for running a huge book along with his son.

Has KC still answered to Chicago since Operation Strawman went down and Anthony Cavilla died in 2006? What kind of say would Chicago have about KC closing up shop?

Sorry but this is total bullshit, Willie Cammisano jr. was in prison in 2011, released early 2012. Willie Cammisano died in 1994.

Chicago has no say over KC, After strawman William Cammisano sr. acting boss broke away from Chicago who was happy to let them go.

KC does not have an OC department, it has an itellegence department which used to work with the FBI. But Italian Organized crime is not the priority, with the influx of MS13, crips, Bloods and the mexican cartels and they are not putting resources into surveilling "family" members as they deem these other organizations as more pressing concerns.

There are 22 made members remaning in KC including retired and inprisoned members.

John Scirtino
Peter Simone
William Cammisano Jr.
James Moretina
Vincent Civella
Angello Porello (in prison)
John Calia (in prison)
Vincent Piciotta (in prison)
John Mandacina (in prison)
Paul Varsalona (retired)
Anthony Simone
Nick Labruzza
Paul Silvio
Pete Ribaste
Jerry Cammisano
Pete Tamburello (retired)
John Glorioso
Carlo Cavillaro
Nat Brancato (retired)
Ben Palmentere
John Termini
Frank Deluna (retired)

Hi Joey Dice, actually the writer was talking about Cammisano's son, not him. Willie Cammisano, Jr. You're right, the dad died quite a few years back. Are you sure there's as many members as you say?

You know I dont know where the 10 members number came from but its far from accurate. Yes I am sure, from trial transcripts, Owsleys books (FBI KC strike force Lead agent)these men are made and still alive. My Uncle is Paul Varsalona. At the time of their heyday 70's many of these guys were in their mid 30's. Moretina and Cammisano brothers were in late 20's. Its just been in the last 7 years or so that many of the old school guys have died like Jimmie Duardi, Charlie Cacioppo, Tuffy Deluna, Ralph Siragusa, Frankie Tousa, Johnny Costanza, Vinnie Picone (car accident) and Baldizar Palmentere. But many are still alive and kicking, some active, some not, some in prison.

One final thing to consider, even if Cammisano Jr had been at a meeting he was on paper and would have been violated and returned to prison, he has not been. I would think meeting with two other confirmed members of organized crime would be a violation of his supervised release.

Ivy League and Hairy Knuckles don't buy that there's that many made guys in KC today and I'm not sure there is either. Nice information anyhow.

Tony Pro has a great point. The rest of them still will be involved in crime together, but as far as a family of La Cosa Nostra they are done.

Dice, you live in KC, so if I lived near there I'd go to the restaurant and ask them about it. Worth a try for sure.

My opinion (or you could say the FBI's opinion) on what's left of the mob in Kansas City is well known by this point.

Define huge. The operation reportedly took in about $3.6 million in bets over 3 years.

defunct at the very least...over on RD, there is a poster who is the forum's most educated on KC...He's provided quite a bit of intel. Similar to Pittsburgh, no structure, hierarchy...but illegal gambling by former associates and the last made guy left is still going on...hell, its still going on in Cleveland and Youngstown. I'd say every city that had a mafia family that is no defunct, still has illegal gambling going on.

Everyone does illegal gambling. Hell a guy I know at work runs parley cards on our yard, makes bank because everyone thinks they will hit a ten game!
