Ok, I downloaded Google Chrome. Although I didn't put the connection into my printer, it looks as tho I'll be able to print using Google Chrome. Two questions tho:

1. To be clear, I have IE, FF and now Google Chrome. Having all three won't affect my computer/performance?

2. I don't see as I do in IE,FF the "File, Edit, View, History options. confused Also, I figure out how to "bookmark" a stie, but dont' see the icon for me to check my "Bookmarks/Favorites."

Thanks

Good question I would like to know that my self. Because when I'm using chrome. I'll have Norton say High CPU Usage or some other stat. I also have IE on here but not FF. I'm not a computer expert but I know there probably is a few on here.

1) No, having multiple browsers will not affect your computers performance. Now, if you have multiple antivirus softwares, then yes, that can affect it as they may think the other one is a virus and mess with your system.

2) I'm new to Chrome myself. I know what you mean in terms of the File, Edit, View, History, Options toolbars. It looks like Chrome doesn't have many toolbars. However, to get your bookmarks:

-Go to the top right corner of the browser that has 3 lines going across (to the right of the star)
-Go down to the fourth line which should read Bookmarks
-Make show "Show Bookmarks Bar" has a check mark next to it. If not, click it.

Hope that helps! smile

Thanks I12. I've been browsing around and found the favorites icon, but you're right, I don't see where you can click the icon and see the list. Rather, they are on an upper bar on top of page.

Now, regarding virus protection. I have Microsoft Security essentials which, as you know is free, but I always liked it and run it regularly. BUT, I also am paying for virus protection called Webroot (Came with the computer) which I am very satisfied with. Do you think I need to drop MSE? confused

I don't think you need to drop MSE. Just don't run them at the same time. I used to pay for antivirus software myself but my friend who built my new computer told me to switch to MSE and that's what I've done. Been using it for about a year and a half now plus a free antimalware program such as MalwareBytes or Spybot.

TIS, drop Webroot; no need to pay for virus protection. Go to CNET. There you can download for free just about all the software thatis out there. I have Avast, IOBit, Spyware Blaster, Glary, and CCleaner and I got it all free from CNET.

In any case, as someone has already posted, multiple anti-virus softwares on a pc can conflict.

To see you bookmarks in a list just right click one of them, then go to bookmark manager.

Next to the star the button with the 3 lines Irishman was talking about, you will find Edit and Tools. I don't think file is available on chrome though.

Does anyone have a Mac mini or know someone who does? I'm trying to get some feedback about it. I'm thinking of buying once since it's considerably cheaper than an iMac (which is what I really want)

Was thinking of maybe upgrading my iPad mini since I knew this year they would be coming out with an iPad mini with Retina display but not for $400

iPad mini with Retina display

And here's some information about the new full sized iPad:

iPad Air

The only thing that stopped me from getting an iPad mini last year was that it didn't have retina display. I ended up getting the latest full size iPad instead, that iPad air looks pretty slick and already slimmed down quite a bit from the model I have.

How much was the full size iPad if you don't mind me asking? I only really use mine to do a little light browsing around the house when my computer isn't on or as an e-reader. It's not worth it to me to shell out the extra money for the Retina display based on my usage.

I got a 32 GB model which was about 600$. I have quite a few games and movies,so the retina display was worth it for me. For how much you use it, it's a good thing you've got a mini. The big one is a little heavy after a while, and I still use my laptop much more than my iPad.

I'm thinking of getting an IPad. Even the mini IPad doesn't seem bad. Now, if I understand correctly it's sort of like an expanded Iphone? Has apps, you can go on-line, search web, e-mail, take pictures/videos etc. Right? Plus, easier to handle when traveling. What is the downside?

Yes TIS, it's basically like a larger iPhone without the phone capabilities. Downside? The screen's not great for reading outside (which I don't do anyway so it's not a problem for me). The price tag is hefty for some. However, if you were interested in getting the original iPad mini, they've gone down in price now to $299. You can get them WiFi only (which I have) or with cellular connections but that'll run you extra every month for the plans.

Your best bet: window shop. Go into your local Best Buy/Target/Wal-Mart and try it out. See how it feels and if it's something you want to invest the money in.

Hey BBers, What can you tell me about Roku? I search on the board and it didn't come up in this thread, but JG had a few comments about movies in other threads. I have been reviewing my expenditures and I got a puke-vibe when I calculated my TV-Internet (Comcast) and cell phones (Verizon)....more than $3,600 a year! Is Roku a legitimate alternative? I don't watch a lot of network shows. Overall, I'm not a big TV viewer. I watch the Golf Channel, National Geographic, History, Animal Planet and some movie channels like Sundance, Ovation, AMC, but only to catch some of my favs like Godfather (every hear of it? lol), Shawshank, Cuckoos Nest, etc., then the grandkids have to watch Sprout.

Comcast has me by the raisins. There is no competition down here South of the Pinelands. $58.95 for internet with modem ($7)
TV is 107.80 for two TVs and only one is HD. Wireless?! that's for another topic.

But basically I don't need all that other crap. Unfortunately I have to get "Digital Preferred Tier" to get the channels I watch. Is there an alternative? Is Roku robust enough?

My brother has a Roku and hates it. He can never get it to work. You might be better off getting a BluRay DVD player with WiFi and then subscribing to Netflix or now there's a Verizon/RedBox alternative.

Does anyone know an easy (uncomplicated) fix for a slow computer. My daughter's computer is real slow and I told her I'd see what I can find out. I've seen many ads both on tv and on a Google search for PC cleaning downloads/tools but am not sure what is safe to use. I don't want to mess up her computer. Any recommendations?

Thank you in advance

I would avoid the TV gimmicks. I've never tried them but I've heard they're scams and some actually infect your computer. See if there's a local computer repair shop in your area (I've seen a few in the areas I've lived in). Otherwise, and it'll be a little pricey but bring it to Geek Squad at Best Buy. Hope that helps!

TIS, how often do ya'll clean her PC? Don't spend any money. Go to CNET. There they have tons of software to download for free that will clean your PC. Give it a try.

I recommend Glary Utilities and Advanced System Care.

Oli,

I don't usually clean her computer. She just asked me to look at it. I wrote down those sites and assume they are safe since you've used them.

All of my cleaning applications and anti-virus applications have been downloaded from CNET free. Plus, it has tons of apps she'll probably like. By the way, I clean my PC almost daily.

If you defrag your hard drive that can make it run a little snappier too depending on how fragmented the data on the drive is.
