I always thought it was L.A. BUT I just looked it up and it's Cholame, CA which I have never heard of. confused

I don't know much about cars and don't even know if they make a Porsche Spider any more (not that I could point one out) BUT when I hear it, I think of Dean.

After a Google search: "Buon San Valentino" or literally "Felice giorno di San Valentino"

More related phrases here (choose "Italian")

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

For the most part, I've always refused to buy jewelry for women. I have bought my wife a few items (for my own safety), but it's such a ripoff.

Random rant here, but in the UK Thursday is bin day. The day the councils take our rubbish(trash) away. Here we have big green plastic wheely bins that fit on the back of the trucks ans are easy to wheel about. On Wednesday nights i always leave our bin at the bottom of the drive, because if i put it on the edge of the kerb it would block the pavement(sidewalk). Once the bin chaps have emptied the bin they always leave it lying in the road, the lazy bastards!!!! imagine what would happen if i left the full bin in the road the night before?? My wife has rung the council and basically got fobbed off and i tried having a word with the bin crew and got told to f**k off sick

Basically they say because i don't put my bin on the kerb they just leave it cos they have to walk an extra 2 yards to get it. I explained that the pavement is narrower at our end of the street and if i put the bin on the kerb people would not be able to walk past!!!

Anyways stalemate it is. Just have to get on with it. Makes me angry though, and it takes a lot to get me annoyed!!

I am glad you made this post. Tge way you wrote it am finally just beginning to understand English smile it is different from American.

Here is how I deal with our garbage men councils. When I need someone to do stuff for me I grease them give them money.

At Christmas time I give them all Christmas cards with money in them. If I have a lot to be removed I make sure I get to them before they get to me and ask them to do something for me and grease them again.

I see their truck on the street I wave to them. If I have some to throw out that is still good. I offer it to them.

I make them feel like I am a good guy, and also make them feel like they need me.

I have a futon like a sofa/fed that my son could not take with him when he moved to another place. So he brings it to my house because I have a large house. I can't use it and he thinks it is too good to throw away.

I am going to ask my "councils" if they can use it. If not I just put it out for them to pick up.

I see what you are saying. If the bin men want to take any of my old rubbish they are welcome to it tongue

Years and years ago when i was a kid, irememebr my folks giving the bin men money at Christmas, but that was when they had to manhandle old tin bins full of stinking shit into the trucks. Folks seemed friendlier then eh?

The milk man and the paper boy also got an extra bonus. We no longer use either, although my eldest lad does a paper round and is hoping to gain some extra Christmas money this year. I told him the way things are now, not to hold his breath lol

The people who never tip never tip. The people that do get that little bit of extra service.

If the service is good I always over tip. If it isn't i still tip but not over tip. Because I might need the service later.

Years ago when my kids were young they were in our pool. A stray dog wanders in and I hear the kids screaming. I freak I go to pool with a baseball bat like a cricket bat but it's not flat smile I try to chase it away then he shows me his teeth. So I did what had to be done. I get the kids out of the pool. Then I bag the dog up and put it in a big a garbage can. The garbage guys councils can not take it out for what ever reason. Grease them the doggie is gone.

I ask them can they do the same thing with a human being they laugh. They had new clue I was dead serious.

When I was a kid there was a furniture mover who did that service. He was a good guy. He lived in our tennament building. None of us had cars so everyone once in a while he would fill up the back if his truck with people from the building and take us all to the beach. His daughter is still alive.

He also removed bodies from the murder scenes after they were killed to make extra money. Give him a call have truck will travel. His daughter never knew that about him

I'm glad you brought up trash collection, Yogi. First, I was surprised that everyone in England has trash pick up on the same day. It sounds as if the process is controlled by a governmental unit too.

Our trash pick up is contracted to a private business, whom we pay directly for the service. this is the case in most of American suburbia, I assume. Also, our trash is picked up on Tuesdays, but other neighborhoods in the township have different days.

Each family is limited to four trash bags per week in addition to unlimited recyclables and one free standing item, like an old piece of furniture or appliance.

A few weeks ago I came home to find out that our trash was the only one in the neighborhood not collected. The reason was that there was a small shopping bag of trash placed in one of my trash recepticles that constituted a fifth bag. The small bag would easily have fitted inside any of the four trash bags that I placed on the curb, but because it was technically 5, they picked up nothing, not even the recyclables.

I had just given the trash collectors $100 at Christmas too.

Here in Newport News, VA the city picks up the trash. We use the huge can that they provide. They also have a huge can for recyclables they both get picked up on Monday. Also a truck comes and picks up other stuff like furniture etc.

In Ohio were I live we contact with a company that comes on Tuesdays. We are allowed 2 cans on the curb. But if we have a bag that won't fit in the cans I just put it on top of the cans or beside it and they will take that also. If we have to throw something big out we have to call ahead so they can bring a different truck out. One of my neighbors uses a different company and they come on Wednesday mornings at 2AM. that ticks me off.

Klyd, i think there are different days for collection depending on which council you land under. It is always the councils in charge of the removal though, which is why we pay council tax(one of the reasons i would not pay anybody for special favours, i already pay).

Our collection used to be on a Monday but because Bank Holidays fall on a Monday and the council did not want to pay their surly fellows double time(austerity measures) they changed the collection to a Thursday. That is every week. The recycling gets collected every 2 weeks on a Thursday, and the garden waste every 2 weeks on a Saturday.

I have more bins in my garden than the council yard!!!

Our yard waste entails an extra charge, but there is a wetlands sloping directly behind my property, and it is the perfect place for grass clippings, tree and shrub trimmings, etc.

We used to pay separately, then the towns figured they could do a better job and take your money. Garbage is collected twice a week and recycling on Fridays (I forgot to put it out last night and had to chase the truck down the street this morning). Bulk pickup (furniture, appliances, etc.) is the first Wednesday of every month. Yard waste is only a few times a year.

I suppose we have it good here, they pick up the trash every other night. But then it's a big city. Recycling items though, that's once a week, and if you're lucky to be at home in the afternoon on a work day. ohwell

Now the city will come out and pick up limbs especially after a storm. The city will also come out a couple times in the fall to pick up leaves.

For the upcoming financial year, our Council wanted to start charging us an extra £20 a year for the privilege of taking the garden waste away. This on top of the £450 a year council tax we already pay? A great furore was made by us, the plebs, and the council actually backed down despite pleading poverty. They want to walk a mile in my shoes whistle

You are right mate. I really hate paying them their bit. Apart from emptying the bins and occasionly cutting the grass in the summer they do nothing round here!!

We pay round £1200 pound a year in council tax,for what. They provide the emergency services and empty the bins but apart from that i agree, as they certainly don't clean the streets regularly..

Living in a condo community our trash (along with water & insurance for the outside structure of our property) is taken out of our association dues that we pay monthly. Each unit has in the vicinity one of those large bins along with a recycle bin.

The service the councils provide is even worse now that the government have cut all their budgets in the austerity measures. Believe it or not, when i left school, a council job was like gold dust. Good pay and benefits, a job for life and a top rate pension. There were loads of them as well. I have known a few fellas who worked there, all gone now, either paid off or retired!
