WTF!!! 'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Drama: Kurt Sutter And Others Blast AMC After Series Shakeup
AMC has caused an uproar in Hollywood after announcing that "The Walking Dead" will be renewed for a fourth season, but that Glen Mazzara, the showrunner and executive producer, would be leaving the series.
"My time as showrunner on 'The Walking Dead' has been an amazing experience, but after I finish Season 3, it’s time to move on," Mazarra said in a statement. "I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey."
But although Mazzara seemed thankful for his time with AMC, other Hollywood producers feel that he was betrayed. Take Kurt Sutter for example.
The "Sons of Anarchy" showrunner expressed his thoughts on "The Walking Dead" shakeup last night, saying AMC has "no appreciation or gratitude for the effort of it's creative personnel."
Sutter took to his WhoSay account to write:
AMC is run by small-minded, bottom-line thinkers who have no appreciation or gratitude for the effort of it's creative personnel. Time and time again we see events like what happened today with Glen Mazzara. They continue to disrespect writers, sh*t on their audience and bury their network. Mazzara took the work-in-progress that was "Walking Dead" and turned it into a viable TV show with a future. Without him, that future is dim. Showrunners are not development executives, we're not cookiecutter douchebags that you plug into a preexisting model. TWD will suffer. Even Zombies need consistency. "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" will be gone soon. So will AMC. I hope their f**king stock takes a dive and the shareholders line up Sapan, Dolan and Collier and sh*t in their open hands. C*nts.
"Last Resort" showrunner Shawn Ryan also shared his take on Mazzara's exit, posting a series of tweets about AMC's decision.
"Common knowledge that AMC cut Breaking Bad shorter than it should have been. Now you have creative differences w/ biggest hit's savior?" Ryan wrote. "With FX, Showtime, HBO, Starz, Cinemax, A&E, TNT and others to sell to, it's a real question now why good show runners should sell to AMC?"
And upcoming "Banshee" executive producer Greg Yaitanes agreed.
Mazzara was the second showrunner on "The Walking Dead." He replaced executive producer and creator Frank Darabont during the second season. Whoever replaces Mazzara will be the show's third showrunner in four seasons.
"The Walking Dead" returns to AMC with new episodes on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. EST.
I was reading about that yesterday. I am really not exactly certain what a show runner does (I know runs things but still it's confusing)
They keep the same writers, actors, producers, etc? I know Mad Men had some problems between seasons a while back, and it took forever (so much so that I kind of lost interest) for them to resolve it. I don't know if this "showrunner" issue was the cause. The article says that both Mad Men & Breaking Bad will be gone soon. I hadn't heard anything about Mad Men being cancelled.
Anyway, sounds like AMC has some pretty crappy executives or top guns. I HOPE that this doesn't screw up a wonderfully written, well-acted tv show. Maybe they should move WD to another network.

BTW, I don't think I posted this already but AMC is airing a WD Marathon on New Year's Eve. I'm not sure if it'll be from season one but if it's all day I'm guessing it will be. Anyone who hasn't seen the series but is interested, check it out. Don't know that I'll watch all day but I'm sure I'll tune in for a few episodes.

Pisses me off that out of the People's Choice and Golden Globes, WD wasn't up for anything. IMHO: writing, acting are perfect categories. Oh well, still enjoy the show.

Btw, speaking of Karl, I look for that actor to go thru a growing spurt. Don't know his real age, but he'll probably be a teenager by next season. Meanwhile, I'm anxious to see how the Governor goes down because he is downright creepy.

For the Dead fans who can't wait, I just noticed that AMC is airing at least the first season of "Walking Dead" today starting at 3:00 (PST), continuing thru the wee hours. NOTE ALSO that there will also be some sneak peeks at what I assume is the first episode of the new season, "The Suicide King".
Beats the hell of of the Super Bowl. I'm in!!

Well it goes on thru the night. I'm not sure if it is only the first season or if they'll get to the second. I'm guessing AMC will probably run all the seasons this week since it starts up again on Saturday. YEA!!!
Btw, purely speculation. I know NOTHING about the upcoming season but the title "Suicide King"....The Governor? Jim Jones mass suicide type thing???? Only guessing. Who else would be a Suicide King?

Ok, first season, first episode just started. I forgot how great the very opening scene was. You guys remember? Rick's on the highway, all the cars in middle of the street when he sees a little girl zombie. Then the next scene goes back to before it happened with Rick/Shane talking in the car about Rick/Lori's marital problems. Anyway, can't wait!!

The best scene for me in the whole series is at the end of episode 1 season 1,when Rick is stuck in the tank and the camera pans away at a birds eye view and you can see the walkers around the tank and the city.. Brilliant scene..

I actually watched the entire first season of WD yesterday (beats the Super Bowl) .
No spoilers, unless you haven't seen the 1st season, but a couple memory refreshers:
1. I tend to forget about the Black guy & his son that helped Rick in the beginning. Rick left him a Walkie/Talkie and in later episode Rick was talking to him (in a one sided conversation) not knowing if the guy could hear him or not. I wonder if the guy & son will show up next season.
2. I forgot about Carol's husband and what an abusive asshole he was. After he is attacked by a walker and killed, Carol insists on "finishing him off" and went a little crazy with the ax or shovel she was smashing him with. Paybacks?
3. I sill love the opening scenes with Rick waking from the coma and amazed at the surroundings. I mean really a WTF moment, no? LOL

i hope so, they were two of my favorites and i'm sure there is more than enough storyline to work them back in somehow. rick owes them a favor, so maybe he will save them?

the first episode was the best by far, same with the first season imo. i don't know if its just the storyline evolving, or if i'm missing some old characters(dale), or if all the recent changes with regards to the writers/producers, but the show just has a different feel to it. i think alot of it has to do with these weird characters, the governor and michone, both of which i could do without. i like the more "real" characters, not the mysterious ones. i hope the 2nd half of this season will make up for a still great, but not as great as i was expecting, first half.
It's either blue cheese with wings or go fuck yer mudda!
I agree. Many times some of these shows DO go a bit off the edge IMHO and I hope that's not the case here. The Governor story IS odd but I'm still intrigued and am gonna wait to see how it goes. Then again don't they have different writers? That could very well make a difference but I sure hope not.
Btw, They did show a couple minutes of the new season and it DID look pretty good (at a glance anyway). I am STILL addicted to WD and will definitely tune in.

I actually enjoy the whole story with the Governor (Michonne not so much), its out of the ordinary and you just never know with that guy cause every few episodes we find something else out that is creepy. I dont mind that some people's favorite characters (like Dale, Lori, etc) have died off because it just shows me that the writers arent worried about what people will think/or how it will be received. They are focused on making sure they pull off the story the way they want even if it calls for killing a longtime character.
But I must say,I am hyped that its coming back on!!! Ive had it with shows that take time off during mid-seasons (like WD, Breaking Bad) or long time after a season to air a new one (like Mad Men).

Yea, like I said, I am intrigued by the Governor storyline at this point and after seeing the brief previews yesterday I too am all hyped to see it again.
Many of the cable shows take very long breaks between seasons however, as of THIS season I'm first hearing of this "mid season" break. That does irritate me. I wish there was not so much time between seasons, let along a break in between.

My daughter was telling me that she saw an ad where you can get a "Walker" app for your cell phone. You download a pic of yourself it'll turn it into a Walker?? Now, don't we all strive for that.
