Really good post Antonio. Also Rocco Sollecito was arrested again on a parole violation served the rest of his sentence and then released again this summer.

Also Salvatore Scoppa was arrested today on Drug Trafficking charges and Domenico Manno Vito's Uncle was released from US Prison today.

The Scoppa's are at or near the top of Montreal right now and Daniel Renaud of La Presse has insinuated a few times in the last few weeks that the Scoppa family maybe being targeted by the Rizzuto's right now. The Scoppa's have had had close connections to the last 4 or 5 people hit in Montreal all of whom seem to come from the side which tried to take control from the RIzzutos. The have also been targeted in some arsons in the past while

Here is the Scoppa Arrest article and I will post a couple of others related to my comments above below.

Montreal police dismantled yesterday two networks of drug traffickers linked to the brothers Scoppa associated with the Italian Mafia, told La Presse.

According to our sources, a dozen people have been arrested, including Salvatore Scoppa, 42, who was in his luxurious residence in Laval, protected by many cameras. The suspects are expected to appear this afternoon at the courthouse in Montreal, where they are likely to be accused of drug trafficking, conspiracy and possession of a weapon.

At dawn Wednesday, about 150 police officers were forty searches, including Montreal, Laval, Longueuil and Blainville, under two separate baptized Stethoscope and Narco, led respectively by investigators Southern and Northern Service Police of the City of Montreal (SPVM). The Sûreté du Québec investigators and arson section SPVM have also participated in the operation.

During the raids, which targeted homes and vehicles, including investigators got hold of tens of grams of heroin and cocaine, unspecified quantities of marijuana, hashish and ecstasy, bulletproof vests , stun guns, at least

$ 25,000 in cash and a drug press.

According to our sources, one of the two networks, possibly linked to gang the West, especially students used to sell its drug center and west of the island of Montreal. The other drugs flowed mainly in the north of the island of Montreal and Laval.

Salvatore Scoppa has two brothers, Roberto and Andrea Scoppa. The latter, called Andrew, is considered by the police as a very influential chieftain in Mile End, Parc-Extension and Little Italy.

Scoppa name is closely linked to the Italian mafia for years and resonates regularly in the news for some time criminal.

In mid-November, Mohamed Awada, 47, who had been charged with Salvatore Scoppa in a kidnapping case in 2008, was killed near his home.

A month earlier, a fitness center on boulevard Saint-Laurent, linked to Andrew Scoppa was the target of a Molotov cocktail.

Among the murders the week of November 12 in Montreal, some would fall in a wide chess game of organized crime in Montreal. In the underworld as in this strategy game, you must know the pieces down before approaching larger pieces.

It is in these terms imaged a source familiar with the investigation of the case exposes investigators about the murders.

The latest victim is the most important.

Mohamed Awada was shot almost in front of him, rue Leblanc, Montreal-Nord, on the night of

November 17.

Sentenced to nine years in prison for heroin trafficking in the 90s, accused of involvement in the kidnapping of mobster Nino Bartolomeis in 2008, he was released after this last accusation that Bartolomeis had changed his version of facts. Only his co-defendant Salvatore Scoppa was sentenced to $ 20,000 fine for conspiracy. Awada was also awaiting trial for drug trafficking.

According to our source, Awada is a hit man who has played on more than one table. It has already been associated with the camp Raynald Desjardins, but it would not be the case. "Its scope was intimidation," jobs ball "extortion for Italian criminals, like Joseph Ducarme in another jurisdiction," describes our source.

He was able to connect with Giuseppe De Vito, another notorious gangster held after Operation Coliseum in 2006. He was also able to connect with Salvatore Scoppa, which, according to several sources, has a monopoly on heroin on the Boulevard Saint-Laurent in the north and north-east of Montreal. It is also in this area has been shot Tony Gensale, Thursday, November 15 in the afternoon. He left the gym where he practiced taekwondo, boulevard Saint-Laurent Street near Sauriol, when he was hit by several bullets.

"Gensale was not an impact player, it seems to be a matter of territory. It became annoying. This is the territory of Salvatore Scoppa, "says our informant.

According to him, the murders such as that of Awada can be committed in a "preventive". That is to say, a faction that wants to eliminate elements capable of responding to an attack against a member of the largest clan.

"It's like chess. Before reaching the queen, the king we must eliminate pawns "illustrates our interlocutor.

Return to the country of Vito Rizzuto after several years of detention in the United States may not be a stranger to this agitation.

"It is not necessarily the one who gives the green light, but it can be caught by against decisions to subordinates, telling them," You know what you gotta do, '"our source analysis.

Another source says that "the mafia, it's always moving. Even if you do not like people with whom we did business or who have had to pay taxes, the established order ensured that everyone had his share of the cake and roll business. Positioning is taking place again, the pieces are placed and undesirable are away. There is a need to regain the monopoly of the sale of narcotics. "

To return to Scoppa, he is the brother of Andrew Scoppa, with whom he had several disputes in the past. Andrew reign of Parc-Extension and Park Avenue, according to investigators. It may be that he was targeted in a recent arson fitness Kardiologik on Boulevard Saint-Laurent near the Jean-Talon, he frequents assiduously and he may be the true owner, the sources said.

The evidence collected during the investigation Coliseum, it was learned that in a territorial dispute that opposed to a member of the Hells Angels, the powerful right arm Rizzuto, Francesco Arcadi, decided to support it.

But it might also be in favor in the eyes of the Rizzuto clan.

"The coming months will tell us a lot about Scoppa. It is part of the people we have loved seeing defend the family in the absence of Vito Rizzuto. Expectations were high and Vito is not happy. As in the case of Di Maulo, "says our source.

Domenico Manno, the uncle of Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto, was released from a U.S. prison Thursday morning and is on his way back to Montreal, where the elderly mobster will be reunited in grief with a family under attack.

Mr. Manno, 79, was instrumental in propelling the Rizzuto family to the top of Canada’s underworld in 1978 when he helped in the slaying of Paolo Violi, the reigning Mafia chieftain at the time.

That dramatic murder in a Montreal ice cream parlour signalled the changing of the guard from the Calabrian-led Mafia faction to the Sicilian-led faction under the leadership of Nicolo Rizzuto, Vito Rizzuto’s father.

“Domenico Manno was turned over to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement this morning. ICE is in the process of effectuating his removal from the United States,” said Ross Feinstein, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman.

Mr. Manno was held in Fort Dix correctional institution in New Jersey.

The National Post has learned that Mr. Manno will be arriving in Montreal by dinner time Thursday.

Mr. Manno was charged in the U.S. in 1994 for a drug trafficking conspiracy that brought heroin and cocaine from South America into Canada through the U.S. After an extradition battle, he pleaded guilty in 1998.

His own lawyer, at the time, referred to him as the “Don Corleone” figure in the drug conspiracy, a reference to the Mafia boss in The Godfather movie.

“Manno is acting throughout this whole conspiracy, and there’s a guy named Rizzuto who’s on top of Manno,” court was told.

As part of that plea agreement, Mr. Manno agreed to forfeit $250,000.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Ryan RemiorzVito Rizzuto, right, head of the Montreal Mafia, speaks with his attorney Jean Salois after a hearing in Montreal in 2004.
He later appealed his sentence, arguing he thought he would be transferred to serve his sentence in Canada and not ever have to pay the fine. When told this was wrong, he was outraged and sought to reduce the fine, claiming he was broke. His appeal was denied.

He has since quietly done his time.

Previously, Mr. Manno received a seven-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to conspiring to kill Paolo Violi.

Mr. Manno was born into Mafia royalty in Cattolica Eraclea, the village in Sicily where the Rizzuto clan came from; he is the son of Antonino Manno, who was the recognized Mafia boss of a large area of Sicily’s south-west.

The Manno and Rizzuto families have been entwined for generations. Mr. Manno’s sister, Libertina, married Nicolo Rizzuto, Vito’s father; and Vito’s sister, Maria, later married Mr. Manno’s cousin, Paolo Renda.

Mr. Manno first tried to emigrate from Italy to the United States, arriving in New York in 1951 but was expelled, according to U.S. immigration files. He later came to Canada, settling in Montreal.

Stocky, strong and steeped in the Mafia tradition, he was a mainstay of the Sicilian mob faction as it fought to carve a strong presence in Montreal.

Despite being the son of the old Mafia boss in Sicily and being older than Vito Rizzuto, he appeared to graciously accept the clan’s leadership skipping over him when it was passed from Nicolo.

In October, Vito Rizzuto was released from a U.S. prison where he served a sentence for a triple mob murder. In Mr. Rizzuto’s absence, the family has been under attack.

Nicolo Rizzuto was shot dead in 2010, Paolo Renda was kidnapped in 2010 and is presumed dead. Also killed have been Vito Rizzuto’s eldest son, Nick, and others close to Mr. Rizzuto.

What happens to Mr. Manno in Canada remains an open question.

Although he was a long-time resident of Canada, he never became a Canadian citizen, according to U.S. court documents.

“Manno is not a Canadian citizen, but rather merely a ‘landed resident,’” a government memo entered into court says.

Further, he could well become entangled in the continuing underworld power struggle in Montreal.

Also among those murdered is Agostino [BadWord]. It was alongside Mr. [BadWord] that Mr. Manno plotted the Violi murder.

The murderer of mafioso Emilio Cordileone clearly wanted to send a message by leaving the body of his victim in the heart of its territory and in his own vehicle.

This is at least believe that the police and other sources from different backgrounds consulted by La Presse.

In all likelihood, Emilio Cordileone, 50, who had been missing for two days was killed elsewhere. His body was then returned to the family territory, then abandoned his luxury SUV parked by the curb Sauriol, in Ahuntsic, Montreal. Police officers on routine patrol recognized the vehicle searched and discovered the body around 9:30 Saturday morning.

"The goal of the killer was that the vehicle was recovered. That is not a Honda Civic is a white Range Rover. He was left in the middle of its territory, and there, everyone knows his car, "a source told us.

"This is a traditional way of doing the mafia when you want to send a message. The message seems to be territorial in nature. We did not leave the body here for nothing. It is calculated, "told us another source.

Several tracks

According to our information, Cordileone Emilio was involved in drug trafficking. A few years ago, his family have had links with Hasan Eroglu, heroin trafficker of Turkish origin assassinated at his home in Pointe-Claire, July 2007.

The Cordileone also have strong links with the family of the influential Calabrian Moreno Gallo, who has been tipped to replace Vito Rizzuto head of the Montreal Mafia, following the arrest of the latter in 2004. He was deported for serious criminality at the beginning of the year.

Emilio Cordileone would also have business projects with members of the Gallo family, we were told. His father, Domenico, was close to Joe Di Maulo, another influential gangster murdered in his home in Blainville, last month. The main assumption used by the police to explain the murder of Di Maulo is that it would be disloyal to the Sicilians in the absence of the fallen godfather Vito Rizzuto, released on October 4.

The police will also see if there is a link between the murder and that of Emilio Cordileone Joe Di Maulo, but it is one possibility among others.

One thing is certain: Ahuntsic sectors and Little Italy are hot spots for several weeks. November 17, Mohamed Awada, known to the dirty work of the Mafia, was murdered rue Leblanc, on the edge of the area. Two days earlier, another individual known to police, Gensale Tony, 43, was killed as he left a gym in the Boulevard Saint-Laurent.

Speaking of gym, one of the influential clan leader Andrew Scoppa was the target of an arson attack on 19 October. Other businesses in the area were also visited by arsonists. All these crimes would not, however, the same thread.

Fief

Sources have told us that, since his return, Vito Rizzuto still has not visited Little Italy, yet one of its strongholds.

In contrast, people around him were seen in schools around, chatting with some influential people. According to our information, Vito Rizzuto is still in the process of measuring its support and recover, "having this kind of discussion where one of the questions might be:" You're with me or against me? '" we were told.
