A Call For U.S. Treasury Department To Designate Gambino Crime Family As A Transnational Criminal Organization

The Gambino crime family allegedly is strengthening its ties to the old country, and the supposed move may prove its undoing under a recently issued Executive Order by President Barack Obama which authorizes the Treasury Department to designate transnational crime groups in order to freeze their U.S. assets and ban American citizens and companies from conducting business with them.

...

Designating the Gambino crime family as a transnational criminal organization would financially squeeze it out of existence. All the U.S. bank accounts, real estate and business concerns which are affiliated with its purported members and associates would be frozen, and no American could engage in any financial or business transactions with them. In one fell swoop the Treasury Department through the Office of Foreign Assets Control would do more to undermine the Gambino crime family than more than fifty years of criminal prosecutions.

I've said this before, but charging American LCN guys with the anti-terrorism statutes will be next. Several of them are already doing time in terrorist wings. Charging them as such is only a matter of time.

So for everyone thinking that the Gambinos would be making a big comeback in America because they just got more Sicilian, read the article and think again. This isn't Sicily. It's not even Canada.

The American government will never let up. Ever. The wiseguys caught a break after 9/11. And now that those wars are finally winding down, the domestic end the FBI will go back to assaulting them full force.

Jesus, a Transnational Criminal Organization? Do you have any idea what the legal implications are there?

And I'm not saying it's right because it seems over the top. But it is what it is.

From the article though, it sounds like they won't be added until the Calabrian and Sicilian Mafia are added. That could be any day, but for now the Gambino's are safe.

Thing is what the Gambino's do on a global scale is probably a fraction compared to what groups like the LCN or drug cartels do. But it's all about technicality, if the Feds feel like the Gambino's are importing heroin internationally, even if it's small they'll use that to the fullest extent of the law.

my question is, how long until the feds lose all credibility whatsoever and start locking people up with no trial/lawyer/due process whatsoever under NDAA as its just easier than doing things the "rightway"? these laws seem to be put in place as sort of an endgame/copout, and not just for peoiple associated with OC. wake up/do your research, and get informed people!

I have to say but charging mobster with the anti terroism statutes is wrong. They are not killing thousands of people and terroising million upon millions of people. So extreme.

I think you are right, Pizzaboy. It get a little steamed how law enforcement bends laws and designations to fit their whims.

No doubt an abuse of Government power. But like I said, it is what it is and it ain't gonna change. And I'm just pointing out that these new "laws" are among the many reasons why gangster is a poor career choice in America today. These new "laws" are also among the many reasons why American LCN will never be the same.

The sooner, the better.

Looks like the Genovese are always the luckiest ones...
Not having re-established the bridges with the Old Country won't make them fear this sort of things.

^ I'll check out that transnational law. Haven't read a lot about the Gambino's as a lot of the senior posters back in the day when the cherryhill gambino's got jammed up did rosario take that on the chin being the oldest brother when the other two were acquitted that's honor

This is just an individual blogger calling on the feds to use the transnational law against the gambinos. There are no indications out there that this will be case.

Tommy Shots: They want me running the family, don't they know I have a young wife?
Sal Vitale: (laughs) Tommy, jump in, the water's fine.

So it's ok for the government to break the law and not individuals? The government breaking the law is the worst kind if crime because there is no one to prosecute them.

There's no doubt about that, Ted. I agree with you 100%. But it is what it is. The Feds are never going to let up on them. You know it and I know it.

Dap,

Do you not agree that the Feds will eventually use the anti-terrorism statutes as a measure against the mob?

The day will eventually come when someone gets pinched doing business third hand with a group like al-Qaeda. Probably something small like a bullshit drug charge. The mob guys probably won't even realize who they're doing business with, but The Feds will take a bullshit association like that and run with it.

When that happens, they're really in for it. There will be International charges all around. It will all be in the name of sensationalism and will basically be a witch hunt, but it doesn't mean that it's not going to happen. It will. Guaranteed.

Taking things of of context...typical

I don't really see what's all this fuzz about.

Would some of you actually complain if the Govt. manages to find a way to get rid (or weaken to near-death) a multi-national criminal organization?

For once, law bending would actually help to solve a real and huge issue.

Still, keep moaning.
Bye

In might be good in this situation, but what about when they do it in a situation you don't agree with. They can still justify it as breaking the law for the greater good. There is no consensus on what the greater good is.
