I am bored, so here's a stupid question: do you think if Ruggiero managed to whack Gaspipe, should he have been convicted for murder, or should getting the world rid of Casso have been considered as an extenuating circumstance for his other trials?

Willie Marfeo to Henry Tameleo:

1) "You people want a loaf of bread and you throw the crumbs back. Well, fuck you. I ain't closing down."

2) "Get out of here, old man. Go tell Raymond to go shit in his hat. We're not giving you anything."

This question was addressed in the book, as it relates to why Ruggiero would have given the contract to a low ranking amateur, like Hydell.

As per Gas, he believed that if his murder was successful, then Ruggiero would have had Hydell whacked. Imo, I'm not sure I buy that since Danny Marino was Hydell's uncle and likely would have tried to protect him.

Edit: I believe Beanshooter meant to say Ruggiero, not Gaspipe, and my response was based on that assumption.

Thinking of buying this but learning that The Iceman was fiction 3/4 of the way through reading it has kind of put me off.

The Iceman probably could have been at least a hundred pages shorter too.

Carlo had a way of repeating himself. It got very repetitive and it kind of dulled the impact of it.

My favorite book from him was Rum Diary. Read it numerous times first about 15 years ago. The movie was a huge disappointed for me. Hated it.

Me, too, Cheech. Funny thing is, he didn't finish and publish that book until MANY years after he initially wrote it.

Re the movie: Johnny Depp is just too fucking weird now. When's the last time he made a movie where he didn't wear eye shadow? rolleyes

Loved Johnny in Fear and Loathing. Ever since he played "Michael Jackson" in the chocolate factory movie I couldn't watch him again. The guy turned into a space cadet

Wait'll you're my age. There's nothing to do but read and wait for the Levitra to kick in whistle.

Hunter was a psycho. You know, he lived in Key West for quite awhile during the '70s.

So I have an offbeat recommendation for you. It's called "Mile Marker Zero," by William McKeen. It's about the artist colony down there back then: Jimmy Buffett, Hunter S. Thompson, Tom McGuane, et al. That those guys all basically became millionaires (especially Buffett) proves that there's just no justice in this world lol.
