I've been watching some of the episodes.... I'm amazed at how much I've forgotten of them. It seems like such a long time that they originally aired.

I am a total tv geek today I swear. tongue

I watched at least 7/8 episodes of Boardwalk Empire (well had a lengthy phone call and did a little picking up as I watched). Now HBO is running "Rise of the Planet of the Apes". Never saw it so I am watching that. Not bad so far. Way different concept that I had thought.

Watched it tonight. Not great, and not terrible. But it could've been better with a bit of tightening-up. The story had potential, but the editing... I don't know what ruined it the most. But it's worth a (free) watch.

Also caught THE MOB DOCTOR premiere tonight... Seems like it could hold my interest for a bit, but will have to give it a few more viewings to see if it'll be a lasting DVR fixture.

Premise: A hot, young, female surgeon's brother gets into trouble with the Mob, and to save him, she performs medical acts for them as needed. While not an angel herself, some of these acts stretch her moral and Hippocratic oath...

So, I like mob shows and medical dramas... I might get into this. wink

I didn't realize the Catholic movie board is apparently still in business. Unsurprisingly, they graded the ultraviolent upcoming DREDD an "O" for morally offensive.

Quote:

The film contains pervasive brutal and gory violence, including torture, frequent drug use, implied oral sex, a few instances of profanity, and occasional rough language.

Aren't the Emmys on Sunday? I glanced at the list but can't say I know who's in the running.

Hey Bam,

I think I'll be around. We'll have to start a discussion thread. I suppose I should take a better peek at who the nominees are. smile

I DO watch Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire (of those you mentioned). I hope Walking Dead is up for something. Probably only a couple shows I actually watch regularly are on list. What about "Newsroom" I wonder if that's nominated? Oh HBO's "Game Change" should be somewhere in there too I think.

I haven't seen Tracy Ullman in a long time. She was really good too.

I am really looking forward to the season premier of Hawaii Five-0. I just refreshed my memory with the last few episodes I am tired though and hope I can stay awake. ohwell Thank goodness for "On Demand." Damn, we are spoiled. Remember the days when you missed a show? If you did, oh well, you just wait til it comes on again or miss it altogether.

book i read, movie haven't seen it. if anything though i do recommend the book if you are a big fan of historical-fiction. the book does put alot of facts in it. and, it does have fun with the fictional parts.

Was anyone else watching when this guy shot himself? As far as I could tell, Fox cut off just as the guy fired.

You know for a movie graded "rotten" on RottenTomatoes at 20%, I actually myself sorta liking THE RITE w/ Anthony Hopkins.

It's an EXORCIST rip-off, but a pretty good one for the right reasons. It tries to create a gracious pace, not so frantic as modern thrillers demand apparently, try to create a mood and atmosphere, and most importantly follows a rule that comic book movies regularly deploy: Accept a concept you yourself might as fantasy whether demonic possession or a guy dressing up as a bat to fight crime, and accept it as reality and believe it, and your audience will follow.

I liked some of the proceduralism of exorcisms thru Hopkins which intrigued me and unlike most movies dealings with demons and the supernatuarl, this isn't a grand battle for live or death told in cartoonish fashion that such movies tend to be but like EXORCIST more localized evil, demons acting like serial killers and God aint helping, but his God Cops (Priests) will stop them. The only touch of the fantastical was a bunch of cockroaches flooding Hopkins' home, otherwise RITE felt sorta grounded in reality in dealing with something from the great Outstanding.

(My favorite scene is when it turns out a possessed boy is haunted by his demon: A frog, which Hopkins throws into an incinerator. What if that frog was some poor prince still waiting for his kiss? What if it was Prince?)

I even liked the skeptic priest protagonist, who himself has a fascinating origin story: His dad was a mortician, and operated his business from home. His dad is Rutger Hauer, and they both did the job on his mother when she died, when said hero was just a kid.

That's some hardcore shit. That demon never stood a chance.

Not a great movie, not really an exceptional one, but decent and better than it's reputation claims.

Did you all know CHEERS premiered 30 years ago this weekend?

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/-cheers--30th-anniversary--what-you-never-knew-about-the-show.html

Fun Fact: It's premiere episode in the ratings rankings was 77th...out of 77 programs. Just a reminder to the quarterly-obsessed networks that just because a program doesn't start out as dynamite (CHEERS was frequently almost cancelled the first two seasons), doesn't mean you should pull the plug in favor of another idiotic reality TV show.

Saw "The Debt" the other night with Helen Mirren. It's the story of three Mossad agents who go into East Berlin in the 1960s to grab a Nazi war criminal. Things don't go as planned and for 30 years the agents have lived with a secret about that mission. The story is told in flashbacks, so it can be a tad confusing, but it's an excellent film.

I caught about 45 mins of it on HBO the other night. It WAS confusing but it was also on late and I really didn't give it my full attention. It did seem pretty good tho.

On a totally different note, SyFY will be showing "An American Werewolf In London" in a minute. I just love that movie. smile Fun to watch.

I saw a youtube interview with David Naughton (the star) and he said it took 6 days to film the two minute transformation scene. uhwhat

I just wish I had seen it at the theater. Never did.

smile
