Apparently if this one person is to be believed, the film rights to Roger Ebert's autobiography (Life Itself) has been picked up the team of Steve Zaillian, Martin Scorsese and director Steve James.

http://awardsdailyforums.com/showthread.php?26930-BeatlesFan-s-(Mostly)-Useless-Film-News-Thread/page27

Some grounds for a decent movie, considering Ebert fighting a cancer that took away this ability to speak (and this to a TV presence) and I'm sure those producers can't resist having the actor playing Ebert spar with their Gene Siskel in flashbacks.

A real curiosity piece, a Fantastic Four radio show from 1975 wherea a future Oscar-nominated actor (and a year away from national stardom) voices the Human Torch. Can you all guess who it is?

Looks like somebody is producing a movie about the Penn State scandal, with Al Pacino attached to play JoePa.

Good casting. But Big Al, tone down on your usual screeching ok?

I had never heard of Paterno nor did I care much about Penn State til the scandal. However, from what I've learned/seen on the story, Pacino sounds like a great choice. smile

RR, I agree with you too on "toning down the screaming." Don't know if it's cause he's older, over confident or what, but Al seems to have put himself into "screaming mode" in recent years. I love him, BUT it does get annoying. rolleyes I prefer the younger him (pre-screaming anyway) wink

I made that comment because JoePa from all the times I remember him was soft spoken, if only because perhaps he was so old or he knew to compose himself in public, who knows?

Pacino screeches by habit, and he shouldn't for that part.

Really TIS you never heard of JoePa? That surprises me.

Pacino is a good choice for resemblance and notoriety. I think he will have to tone it down quite a bit as he tends to "over act" in movies these days. Really, TIS? JoePa has been in the public eye for over 60+ years now.

RR,

Seriously, I never heard of Paterno. I am probably as "anti" sports (as far as watching/caring LOL) as anyone. It never has been of interest to me. I know the "biggies" by name but that's about it. wink

I have my complaints on many cable series and how short their seasons are. Example: I like to watch the light drama, White Collar which started a new season in mid July. Last week they announced one more episode before the "fall break". Good grief, it just came back. rolleyes

I like Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Walking Dead but geez it's so long between seasons. Even Newsroom, after a handful of episodes season one ends already. Don't know how long before season two, a year? rolleyes

That's my rant for today. tongue

they kind of had to with hbo series. a lot of those actors/actresses tend to act in movies during the break. also i guess the woman who play's jimmy's mother gave birth before they started shooting the second season. and, i expect the same with kelly macdonald (if she makes it pass season 3 that is).

I was surfing through the tv listings when I saw The Inglorious Bastards from the 70s with Bo Svenson. It was a different plot than the more current movie of that name. I also saw The Break up with Kiefer Sutherland where the plot was different from the Jennifer Aniston version. There appear to be many movies of the same title, but with different plots. They're not remakes. It just seems odd that producers pick the same name, but change the plot.

Oli, how funny cause last night I too was surfing thru channels and saw "Inglorious Bastards." I thought it was way too soon to have that movie on regular tv so I clicked on the description and saw it was an older movie with the same name. I never saw either, so really can't compare.

TIS, don't bother with the current incarnation unless you enjoy near endless dialogue. I've never seen the '78 version.

I'm still waiting for "The Grey" to come on HBO.

Plus I saw a brief preview of "Taken 2". Forgot when it's due out.

TIS, did you like PULP FICTION or RESERVOIR DOGS or KILL BILL? They were from Quentin Tatantino and BASTERDS is another of those sorts of movies. Lots of (awesome) dialogue plus good gratuitous violence.

Really Olivant, you didn't like the Bear Jew?

The ending was the best part IMO.

Anyone catching "Boss" on Starz? It stars Kelsey Grammer as fictional Chicago Mayor Tom Kane. It is well into the second season now and getting better and better. Pretty good watch - I recommend it.

Btw, anyone who watches FXs "American Horror Story" please post, if you know, when we'll see season one repeat. I saw ONLY the first episode and liked it. I went to website and as of last week I saw no episodes listed. I'd like to watch the entire season before episode 2. Thanks

Dunno if it helps, but the season premiere is October 17th.

SC,

Yea, that's why I'm anxious to see the first season. You'd think they'd run it before the second season. confused I went to the FX website a while back and they only had certain episodes you could watch on-line. I didn't want to watch out of sequence. Plus, I hesitate to go to on-line sites and download episodes for fear of a virus/unsafe downloads.

If anyone hears they'll be re-airing, please post.

Thanks

It got pretty poor reviews, so maybe that's why I didn't hear about it. He plays a detective, which is a stretch for him. I need to see it anyway, and it airs a few times over the next couple weeks (starting tomorrow)...

Thanks

TIS
you can watch the first season here if you want, many good links to stream them, and you don't have to download anything...
