Eddie Murphy and the guy behind THE SHIELD are teaming up to produce a BEVERLY HILLS COP tv spinoff, with Murphy's character's son being the focus who moves to Beverly Hills to escape his father's shadow back in Detroit.

(Because you know, that's so not what his dad did back in the 1980s. Stupid kids today.) Murphy plans to sporadically show up as his old character, now the Chief of Police in Detroit.

Alex Foley is Chief? Oh dear.

The release date is John Lennon's birthday. I agree that the soundtrack is outstanding.

Theres some great songs on that album, my two fav being "Fool on the Hill and Your mother should know", but the film is pretty bad..

I never got through the film because it was bad. Fool on the Hill is a great song. I find that the older I get, the more I love Penny Lane.

The title song is actually my least favorite. I do like "Fool On The Hill" too Kly. But if I had to list my favorites (in no particular order) from the LP they'd be:

smile

Hello/Goodbye
I Am The Walrus
Strawberry Fields
All You Need Is Love
Baby You're A Rich Man

I watch 15-30 minutes of Good Morning America before I go to work. For years I thought Robin Roberts is without peer when it comes to the morning show. I thought that she was by far the best sports personality on ESPN during her time there.

As most of you know, she took an early leave from the show yesterday as she will undergo aggressive treatment, including a bone marrow transplant, for a serious bone marrow disease, MDS.

She left the show a day early to be with her ailing mother. She waded through flooded streets to get to her mother's home in Mississippi to see her before she passed away last night. Roberts' mom, by the way, was the first African American to head the Mississippi Board of Education.

Talk about a rough time. Fighting through a flood to watch your mom pass away days before beginning lengthy treatment for a serious illness only a couple years after battling breast cancer.

Robin Roberts (this one, not the Phillies pitcher) is a true American treasure.

BTW - Her sister is the donor for her bone marrow treatment. I wish them both good luck.

During her absence several of the guests, who'll fill in for Roberts include Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters, Kelly Ripa and Oprah.

I know who Robin is but haven't really seen much of her. I feel for her though. frown

On a much more "unserious" note, did you know Jersey Shores is cancelled? clap lol Don't cry now.

Nicky Minaj? REALLY?? sick

So sad for Roberts. What a nightmare she is dealing with. I can't believe some of the footage I've seen of New Orleans. What a horror, all over again. So very, very sad.

Well Ben Affleck's upcoming directed ARGO premiered at the Telluride film festival and is getting rave reviews, now talked up as a major Oscar contender.

It looks good.

Not necessarily a huge Nicolas Cage fan, tho he is not a bad actor (Won Oscar for Leaving Las Vegas), but I find him a bit quirky and playing (tho well) many oddball roles so much so that I have a feeling he's a bit odd in real life. lol

HOWEVER, FX is now airing a moving starring Cage, called "Knowing" (2009) and I am really enjoying it. Has anyone else seen this film?

Never even heard of it, TIS. What's it about? I think my favorite of all his movies is "Peggy Sue Got Married", followed closely by "Moonstruck".

I saw it. W/o spoilers it's basically a sci-fi/hard science flick about the end of the world. I liked it.

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Hey Lilo, that does briefly sum it up. I'm surprised it wasn't more popular. confused I am uncertain as to how I feel about the ending. All and all tho, a really good movie IMHO. Then again, I enjoy that type of film. smile

SB,

A tad further describing it, Cage plays a teacher who gets access to info over 5 decades old predicting major events where people get killed. As story advances he realizes that some things are due to happen in the future.

I'll never forget that scene with the burning man running past Nic Cage and he says "Hey!!!!" like he's insulted that this dude getting extra crispy fried was rude.

Some good special effects no? I kind of felt for Cage's character, trying to help everyone amid enormous flames, which was really impossible.

I swear this is one role in which Cage played a pretty much normal character. smile Btw, he made another similar movie, I think called "20 Seconds" in which he could see events/disasters 20 second before they happened (or something like that) remember?

That was NEXT, and I didn't care for that one. (or KNOWING either for that matter.) Quite honestly aside from his wonderfully wacky BAD LIEUTENANT remake, I can't remember the last Cage movie that I enjoyed or didn't feel like wasted my time. Maybe ADAPTATION?

NEXT incidentally was another of those many movies adapted from the late Phillip K. Dick's stories. For a guy that lived in poverty for most of his literary career, wrote really just to pay the rent (thus his incredible output), he's become Hollywood's favorite science fiction writer to adapt. More famous and respected post-mortem than when he was alive.

Consider the movies adapted from his writings so far:

Blade Runner
Total Recall (both versions)
Next
Minority Report
Screamers
Paycheck
A Scanner Darkly
Imposter
The Adjustment Bureau

And reportedly many more to come.

I was making a comment to Cage's mega-acting in that scene, which made it unintentionally hilarious for me.

("Mega Acting" is a term somebody online invented to use for actors who purposely overact, and he used that slang for Cage in general.)

Thanks RR. NEXT is the one I was thinking about. I saw the first hour or so and got distracted and never finished it. It didn't keep my interest as much as "Knowing." smile

On another topic, anyone here watch "American Horror Story" on FX? I saw exactly one episode, the very first one and really liked it. I know season two starts next month I think. Anyone know if FX or "On Demand" will be re-airing season one?

Thanks smile

Watched the first part of A&E's COMA tonight (second/last part airs tomorrow)...

It was interesting enough to plan to watch the ending, but, there was something "wrong" the whole time -- I think it was the editing that was off... something. Nothing thrilled me about it at all, but I'll watch the conclusion...

(Apparently Part 1 airs a lot until then, so you can still catch it probably)

The contestant Dana on Hells Kitchen just gets on my nerves. Why does she have to holler when she does her recaps?

She is totally annoying!

But... I don't have a preference for a winner at all, so I'm just watching it out... ohwell

I am so happy that the new TV season w/b starting soon (two weeks I think). I am so tired of re-runs and reality shows filling in the summer gap. rolleyes

Btw, Boardwalk Empire starts this month right? Geez, it's been so long I probably need to see the last season again to refresh my memory. rolleyes

I can't wait for "Walking Dead" either which I think airs in October.

Not seen it but I wouldn't be surprised if "filler" is the problem. Remember COMA was originally a (quite decent) 2 hour movie (based off a 300 page book), so you have to add alot of filler to make it a 4 hour mini-series. I felt this same problem when these same producers made their ANDROMEDA STRAIN some years back.

COMA is fascinating in that the original novel was written by Robin Cook, an Ivy League doctor who became a best-selling novelist. COMA was adapted for the movies by director Michael Crichton, who also was an Ivy League doctor who also became a best-selling novelist in his own right.
