Watch Pride & Glory again. Saw it originally in the theater. Gritty cop movie with Ed Norton and Colin Farrell. Really good.

My younger brother (who wants to join the NYPD) and I LOVE that movie.

I wish Netflix had it on instant streaming

Another one I watched again is NARC, with Jason Patrick and Ray Liotta. Another very gritty cop movie. The opening scene is unforgettable.

I'm watching Stephen King's, "The Mist" on the SyFy channel. I never saw it before. It's actually pretty good; keeping my interest.

Very cool movie, TIS. I read this years ago and can honestly say that one is not better than the other... the book compliments the movie and vice versa. However, one thing the movie does not show is that the lead character does sleep with the check out girl in one of the back rooms of the market thus fueling the religious zealot's ire.

Just watched Bronson with Tom Hardy in. Very good acting from Hardy.

Last night one of the cable channels ran Denzel Washington's "John Q." I hadn't seen the movie in a few years and forgot how good it was. I haven't seen all of Denzel's films but I do like the movies I've seen.

Denzel is my man, TIS (after Jeter, anyway). John Q didn't get very good reviews, and I always thought it a much better film than credited.

SB,

I don't remember it as being real popular at the theater but I too enjoyed it. smile

I saw "Training Day" for the first time a while back. Whoa what an a-hole his character was. uhwhat So easy to hate. Great acting job by Denzel. (If I'm not mistaken he won deservedly and Oscar for that part)?

I’m afraid Washington only got an Academy Award for his role in Training Day. Another incredible Denzel Washington movie is The Taking of Pelham 123, also starring John Travolta.

A movie I’ve recently watched is Ted, it’s a comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. I highly recommend it if you’re into hysterically funny movies. I have also heard a lot about Sacha Baron Cohen’s new movie, The Dictator. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

Bleh, the original PELHAM (a classic thriller from that decade) makes the remake come off as very tame and quite forgettable. The remake isn't bad, just I don't think its worth one's time for what you get from it.

Also you're wrong: Denzel also won a suppoting actor Oscar for GLORY back in the day.

I liked TED too, even if it does that meta-referencing stuff which I don't care mostly. (It's really the FAMILY GUY movie, just on steroids and unrestricted by TV censors.)

Not seen DICTATOR, heard mixed word on that one.

Training Day terrifies me, he was such a horrible, horrible man. I don't want to hate Denzel! Oh, Glory was just such a great movie, and he was the best part about it. That scene, when Matthew Broderick orders that Denzel be flogged for going AWOL, wow! And then he finds out that Denzel's character was just looking for boots.

I watched The Expendables 2 today at the local cinema. It stars Jean-Claude van Damme, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and Terry Crews. Not bad at all.

After Tony Scott's death, I was spurred to rewatch probably his best movie (this or THE HUNGER) in TRUE ROMANCE which just might very well be among my favorite movies ever. Everything about it is awesome from a then-novie Quentin Tarantino's screenplay to Tony Scott servicing it with his slick look and action pyrotechnics to this movie stuffed with a hell of a cast regardless of role size.

You know, sometimes with movies like HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN, words fail to accurately describe that ultraviolet cartoon mayhem. What a great title. But I certainly enjoyed that circus. It's like all those weirdo kids who caught TOXIC AVENGER and wanted to remake that sort of movie when they grow up, and well they did.

The best scene is when Rutger Hauer makes that snuff movie producer eat his own film at gunpoint.

Did you ever see Nighthawks, with Stallone, Billy Dee Williams and Hauer? Hauer plays a very mean and scary "terrorist" and Williams and Stallone are the NYPD after him. Typical 1980s cop vs. bad guy, but there are some very good performances that elevate it a bit. Anyway, it's decent entertainment.

Edit: I almost forgot, but Willy Cicci is in it, too, as the police lieutenant.

When Hauer joins the great Dutch harbor in the sky, I'll remember him mostly for BLADE RUNNER.

I forgot about Nighthawks. Not a real popular Stallone movie, but I liked it. It's been so long since I've seen it I forgot Hauer was in it. Some people are just cut out to be the bad guy and he's one of them.

Speaking of hillbillies, caught LAWLESS yesterday. Meh.

Not a technically bad movie, with a good cast and good attention to period detail. But really it's ultimately rather disposable and not really all that interesting or remarkable.

Is this a thoughtful piece about America's never-ending War on Drugs (before that term was invented?)? Is this an engaging family melodrama? Is this an entertaining rednecksploitation action thriller? None of them, though I guess LAWLESS tried to take a stab at all of them.

rr - I hear that Gary Oldman is in the film but not nearly as much as he should be. At one point, I am told, he appears and then doesn't come back for a while and you almost forget that he is even in the flick.

I think it was FX that aired a remake of the Michael Douglas movie, COMA last night. It's a two parter and I saw part 1 but couldn't stay awake for part II. Anyone see this remake?

It wasn't bad but unless the second part is really really good, I like the original better. ohwell

It's a glorified cameo this side of TRUE ROMANCE. Except I think his TR part may've had more screen coverage.

Still I did forget that Oldman had the best scene in LAWLESS, and maybe I'm a sadistic psychopath because I grinned when he grabbed that shovel...
