Man, I use to love Mel. He was so charming in that movie and good in Lethal Weapon, Bird On A Wire. I liked "The Patriot" and "Signs". As it turns out though, he's a raving psycho lunatic. rolleyes

BTW, isn't that where Mel does his smooth Sinatra imitation? wink

Gotta love the line, "This country can't be knocked out with one punch; we get right back up again and when we do the world is gonna hear the roar of its engines".

Reminds me of the Pearl Harbor reference of "awakening a sleeping giant". cool

The only two commercials I saw from the Super Bowl is this one and the Ferris Bueller. They were both great. Were there a lot of really good ones this year?

I can't wait for the right-wing bloggers* to conspiracy talk of how this was propaganda for how the auto industry bailouts worked and how the President deserves his "second half." You know we're getting that nonsense tomorrow. Some of those YouTube comments already posted foresee that.

Too bad, this was a homerun ad.

*=Which is weird, since Eastwood is a notable right-winger, but whatever.

Off-topic, but as a non-fan critiquing, I thought Madonna did a pretty good halftime show? Probably the best of that sort since Prince.

Maybe I'm biased because of how bad last year's program with Black Eyed Peas blew, but unlike that flop, there was energy emitted* from this cartoon circus of absurdity with Roman gladiators, acrobats, cheerleaders, and a gay church choir.

The only drawback I'll make is LMFAO and Green, as I predicted, were useless guest stars who added nothing to the fireworks. Though I'm sure NBC will be pissed having to pay the fine for M.I.A.'s flipping the bird during her portion.

*=The amount of lip-synching, how much if any was executed, didn't matter.

The semester bagan Jan 17. There are two Forums that my online students had to complete by Jan 29. About 10 didn't. One wrote that her grandmother died followed by her sister's wedding. Another wrote that she just had a baby.

Okay, I wrote them. Now, you have to do a topic paper as make-up or you flunk the semester. We'll see.

The beat goes on.

No, it's not due until mid-March. However, I always expect that papers will come in the last few days.

I just saw Al Pacino (along with others) accept the "National Medal Of Arts" from President Obama. smile I see he forgot to comb his hair again. Gotta love Al. lol The President really towers over him, reminding me how short he is. lol
Anyway, pretty cool for our man Pacino.

I'll try to get a picture later. I was watching livestream on line and it's still going on.

Washington (CNN) -- The Federal Communications Commission approved new rules Wednesday to further limit automatically dialed or prerecorded calls know as "robocalls" and automated text messages.

Under the new requirements, telemarketers will have to get permission in writing before placing an automated call to a consumer. Previously, companies that had an established business relationship with a particular consumer could call them without permission. For example, another FCC official not authorized to speak publicly explained, a bank could robocall one of its checking account customers to try to sell them insurance. The new rules prohibit that without written permission.

Spent 5 hours this evening in the emergency room as my sixteen year-old son sustained a severe high ankle sprain in his basketball game. The pain was excruciating, and we feared there may have been a fracture, which would have ended his high school baseball season. this is a big year as he is being looked at by some colleges. While he'll be on crutches for several days, he expects to be ready by early march.

That sucks, klyd, but hopefully his recuperation comes quickly. Don't let him rush it, though!

Thanks, SC. I have had him in physical therapy for his pitching shoulder, which was sore after he played into the Fall. Nothing serious, but we keep him on pitch counts.

As I was driving him to the hospital in his car, I saw him cry for the first time in years. He was broken hearted that he might miss the season.

Right now he's asleep on the couch with the ankle raised and wrapped. He's talking in his sleep about a girl, so I know his spirits are up. He and I split a pizza about an hour ago. It went down easy for him, but it won't set well with me.

Sorry to hear about your son Klyd..

I have news about my eldest boy Michael, who has been nominated as a Young Ambassador for the Olympic Games by his school. Hegets to see the torch when it passes through the area in the summer. He also gets the chance of tickets for the Games themselves, and more importantly to him, he gets free stuff smile

That's a wonderful opportunity for Michael. I'm sure he's excited. We'll all be watching for him on tv - I forgot we were so close to the Summer Olympics.

Sorry about your son Kly but at least he'll be ok. I was fortunate and with my two daughters only one emergency room trip for stitches.

Yogi, congrats to Michael! Quite an honor, I'm sure.

Klyd, so sorry about your son. As someone who has experienced their fair share of time on crutches, I can tell you that a sprain is often more painful than a fracture because it's not as immobilized as a fracture would be.

Btw, a pizza was the best thing you could give him. Mozzarella has miraculous properties. smile

The New Jersey Assembly on Thursday passed a bill legalizing same-sex marriages, setting the stage for an expected veto by Gov. Chris Christie. The 42-33 vote sends the bill to Christie's desk. The Republican governor who opposes gay marriage had promised "very swift action" if the bill passed both houses of the Legislature. The Senate approved the bill Monday.
