TIS, I haven't heard about Liberace. But Douglas in a lover's role? I can imagine it. I remember him from the Inlaws with Robert Brooks. In that his make-up made him look ... ya know, kind of gay.

Oli, not sure when it's suppose to come out. As a matter of fact I don't think it started filming yet,

Lilo,

I only heard this story on the radio this morning and have no link to back it up, BUT they said "The Wizard of Oz" was being remade and was going to be filmed in Detroit. confused Have you heard anything?

TIS, this is the latest I found:

Braff added that the preparation process for the film, which has just begun shooting, has been extensive, with actors and filmmakers "sitting around the table and allowing a lot of wonderful stuff to be found."

The Disney-made "Oz: The Great & Powerful" stars James Franco as a Kansas circus huckster who ends up in the Land of Oz, where he believes he can become rich and famous. But he soon finds his plan imperiled when he runs into three witches (Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz).

The film, which began production several days ago in Detroit and aims for a March 2013 release, doesn't hark back to the 1939 MGM musical -- that film is under copyright -- but rather to Baum's public-domain books.

Ah! Thanks Oli. It's actually not exactly a remake then. That film is such a classic and so beloved I can't imagine anyone people happy with a remake. Yet, that being said, I'd be open to seeing a remake.

I'm really loving the new cop show "Prime Suspect" with Maria Bello. She's terrific in the show, it's sharply written and has a good supporting cast, too. Sometimes I think some of the other cops are written with a little too much testosterone, but no other complaints.

Hi TIS, Oli. I missed this. Anyway looks like primary shooting is in Pontiac panic but I'm sure there will be some Detroit filming.

The girls playing soccer at Barnum Field in Birmingham on a recent Saturday didn't recognize Michelle Williams as the pretty woman walking a cute fuzzy dog they wanted to pet (and were allowed to). Williams, who's been all over B'ham, was recognized by the moms … certainly the little girls would be interested to know Williams was in town to play Glinda the Good Witch in a new Disney film, "Oz: The Great and Powerful," a prequel to "The Wizard of Oz," filming in Pontiac. Birmingham Groves grad/Hollywood titan Sam Raimi is directing; James Franco, Mila Kunis , Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff are co-starring; and Raimi's fellow Michiganian and old "Evil Dead" star Bruce Campbell , from the days when they were still based in Ferndale, has a bit role.

Thanks for the link Lilo. Hopefully that will be good for the city/state no? Don't remember any "yellow brick roads" in the Detroit area though. tongue

Plus, if they shoot in the winter, all I can say is BURRRRRRRRR. Unless of course it's all filmed inside.

[There are ] plans to move forward with a remake of the classic The Wizard of Oz, reports Deadline.

Planning to shoot from the script to the 1939 version (which, though it is by far the best known, wasn't the first filmic iteration of the L. Frank Baum story), WB is said to be in talks with Robert Zemeckis to helm the property.

Let's test Board members' TV memories. Can you finish this tag line of a successful prior TV show:

That would be Sanford & Son I believe (Redd Fox)

Try this:

What city had 8 million stories? I use to love this show. smile

AFTER you guessed what show check out link. I just happened across it while I was looking for the exact number of stories. I'm sure you'll recognize the young star in the beginning.

Hmmmm! I'm real familiar with that term but didn't know it came from a particular tv show. confused I'll try to think of which character might have used that term. What do ya bet SC or TB knows?

"The Naked City" was one the best dramas ever on tv. It was about New York City and the fact that there are 8 million people in the City and each one has his or her own story.

As far as, "nip it in the bud", I remember Barney Fife (Don Knotts) saying that a lot on "Andy Griffith". If that is not the show my second guess would be "Hill Street Blues". The sergeant used to say things like that (but mostly he said, "let's be careful out there").

Very interesting. So many ways to die. LOL I must admit, I've seen only a couple of those films. Didn't realize how many movies Buscemi has made. I remember most vividly The Sopranos scene.

I think "The Big Bang Theory" may have already jumped the shark. The characters have become just too weird and needy to root for anymore. The girl who played Blossom is REALLY getting on my nerves now. She was funny at first, but at this point she's just repetitive and annoying. If she continues to refer to Penny as her "besty," I fear I'll put my foot through the tv set.

I feel the same. I thought it was getting a little stale the end of last season and only caught parts of this season. I forgot what's on the other channel, but I haven't watched it this year for the most part.

Cool show, Tis!

IMO, CBS has the best crime dramas on television: Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, Person of Interest, CSI: Miami, etc.
