When your own family turns on you b/c they can't trust you life is pretty bad.. rolleyes

Larry C. Morris
The New York Times

LOS ANGELES — Before promoting a single stock or venturing into the perilous world of magazine publishing, Lenny Dykstra lived the good life, essentially risk-free. He signed autographs, shook hands and banked the profits from his car-wash business.
As a ballplayer, Dykstra carried himself with a unique confidence. "He was unlike anyone I'd ever met," said his former teammate Ron Darling.

“We had him on the payroll for $1 million a year,” said Kevin Dykstra, Lenny’s younger brother, who managed a string of car-wash and quick lube centers in the Los Angeles area for him. “He was enjoying his retirement from baseball, playing a little golf. But then Lenny had to go do what he did.”

Known as Nails during a flamboyant 12-year career with the Mets and the Phillies for playing with abandon and running into walls, Dykstra is now surrounded by them. He could be in prison for years.

A life once brimming with unbridled energy and flush with cash has ground to a bankrupt halt. Dykstra’s wife of 23 years — the mother of his three sons — divorced him. His mother and brothers are estranged from him. Only former teammates appear to feel sorry for what has become of him.

“Believe me when I tell you that his old friends, the guys who played with Lenny, are heartsick thinking about him being confined to a tiny cell,” said Bobby Ojeda, a starting pitcher on the Mets’ 1986 World Series champions and now an analyst for the cable network SNY.

Not long ago, Dykstra was the proud owner of an $18.5 million mansion in Thousand Oaks, Calif., which he purchased in 2007 from Wayne Gretzky. But since early June, home has been a Los Angeles County jail in a part of the city with no ocean views and where bail bondsmen storefronts outnumber palm trees....

Financial Fall Of Lenny Dyskstra

According to ESPN, Hideki Irabu, who George Steinbrenner famously referred to as a "fat pussy toad," committed suicide today.

I always thought he was overhyped and will remember Irabu because of the "Seinfeld" moment when Frank Costanza screamed "how could you give $12 million to Hideki Irabu?" to George Steinbrenner in the final episode.

Holy shit! eek

He started out great, but didn't pan out very well, but still... kinda shocking! But it seems it was over personal matters, not his career...

Does anybody recall Chris Chelios saying something really stupid about Bettman during the 1994-1995 NHL Labour Dispute?

On the caps of the Twins there appears to be a T entwined with a C. What does the C stand for?

I just watched an HBO special on the move of the Dodgers to LA. I didn't know that O'mally lobbied the Giants to move to California and, in fact, politicians in LA pretty much made that a condition of accepting the Dodgers' move.

Apparently, the move affected Brooklynites similar to a divorce. It was almost tragic.

The never-ending rivalry between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox added a strange new chapter on Tuesday afternoon and I still can't bring myself to believe that it really happened.
Hours before he was set to start a game against the Baltimore Orioles, Boston pitcher Erik Bedard(notes) was served papers at Fenway Park as part of an ongoing child support dispute with an ex-girlfriend.
What made a routine legal process of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court noteworthy and weird, however, was the man delivering the documents. Not only did lifelong fan Tom Cabral proudly wear a Yankees shirt for his meeting with Bedard, he also bragged on his public Facebook wall that his timing was intentional as Bedard would be pitching later that day in a key game for the AL wild-card chase.
Honestly, you couldn't even make this stuff up for the pages of The Onion...

Kobe tells a Kwame Brown story.

Quote:
"But like, the game before we traded for Pau, were playing Detroit and I had like 40 points towards the end of the game. This is back when Detroit had Rasheed [Wallace], Chauncey [Billups] and those guys, so we had no business being in the game. So down the stretch of the game, they put in a box and one. So I'm surrounded by these players, Detroit players, and Kwame is under the basket, all by himself. Literally, like all by himself. So I pass him the ball, he bobbled it and it goes out of bounds.

"So we go back to the timeout and I'm [upset], right? He goes, 'I was wide open.' 'Yeah, I know.' This is how I'm talking to him, like, during the game. I said, 'You're going to be open again, Kwame, because Rasheed is just totally ignoring you.' He said, 'Well, if I'm open don't throw it to me.' I was like, 'Huh?' He said, 'Don't throw it to me.' I said, 'Why not?' He said, well, 'I'm nervous. If I catch it and they foul me, I won't make the free throws.' I said, 'Hell no!'

"I go to Phil [Jackson], I say, 'Hey Phil, take him out of the game.' He's like, 'Nah, let him figure it out.' So, we lose the game, I go the locker room, I'm steaming. Steaming. I'm furious. Then, finally I get a call, they said, 'You know what, we got something that's happening with Pau.' I was like, 'Alright. Cool.'…That's what I had to deal with the whole year."

The Raiders are giving up way too much if this deal goes down as proposed: Sources: Carson Palmer-to-Raiders near

Palmer has not been the same player since the knee injury in the 2006 playoff game.

That's true; he hasn't been. But the Raiders are doing well for once in a long time, so they need to pull out all the stops to continue to do so.

Now i know you American folks will have no great interest in rugby, but i thought you might want to know that your Rugby League team, the Tomahawks, have qualified for the 2013 world cup, the first time they have done so in their history.

Well done to them i say cool

Looks like Urban Meyer's hiring at Ohio St. as its next football head coach is imminent for local Orlando news reports that several Florida coaching staffers are leaving for OSU next year.

Poor Michigan, just when they maybe got their shit together again...

Ndamukong Suh video

Quote:
Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes you get kicked out for acting like an idiot.

The Lions lost a big game and a piece of their reputation, and they deserved to lose both. Bad, angry and stupid is no way to go through Thanksgiving, son.

The Packers have beaten everybody they played since January, so losing to them — even 27-15 at home — is not so terrible. But this wasn’t just a loss Thursday. It was a nuclear meltdown.

The Lions blew several chances in the first half. They drew so many penalties that I wasn’t sure if it was Thanksgiving or Flag Day. Aaron Berry let Greg Jennings run around him, literally, on a screen pass. Nate Burleson dropped a pass that should have set up a field-goal attempt. He also dropped a first-down pass. Jason Hanson pulled a 47-yard field goal wide left.

Matthew Stafford, who is supposed to be a franchise quarterback, threw three interceptions and nearly threw a fourth.

And the worst performance of the day came from their best player. Somebody, please tell me: Is Ndamukong Suh trying to win the Super Bowl or the next Ultimate Fighting Championship?

Suh was ejected for repeatedly jamming Evan Dietrich-Smith’s head into the ground after a play, then stomping on him. It was not just dirty. It was ridiculously stupid. The score was 7-0. In a huge, close game against the best team in the league, Suh guaranteed he would get kicked out.

This was the strongest sign yet that Suh just doesn’t get it. He is an incredible player: Hall of Fame talent combined with world-class relentlessness. But he needs to borrow somebody else’s head.

NOT LITERALLY, NDAMUKONG. PUT THAT HEAD BACK. NOW.

Suh might have gotten away with the head push. It's a violent game.
But the stomp was too much. His explanation insulted everyone's intelligence. I think it's important to have some hardcore nasty players on your team but that crossed the line. It cost Detroit points and was one of the turning points of the game.

Detroit is famous for these second half slumps so that's why I tried not to get too excited about our fast start.

"There's no place for that in football. Why does he have to do things like that? He's one of the best defensive players in the league. There's no question about that. But that was absolutely one of the worst things I've seen in my life."
Paul Hornung, pro and college football Hall of Famer, to Louisville Courier-Journal

"Somebody needs to get him under control, because he's trying to hurt people. It's one thing to be an incredibly physical player and a tenacious player, but it's another thing to set out to end that guy's career."
Matt Slauson, New York Jets, a former teammate of Suh's at Nebraska, to New York Post

"That's flat-out ridiculous. I think he's delusional. He's convinced himself that he's in the right and he's certainly in the wrong."
Hall of Famer, NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders

"Suh's comments after the game were troubling, too. He has to understand that the officials didn't put him in a position that they could eject him. He did. He put himself in that position. His comments to the press may even hurt his chances with the league and their decision on punishment."
Jim Brandstatter,Lions radio announcer

"Suh met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently to discuss his on-field play and afterward said he had a better understanding of how to play the game within the rules. I would say he needs another lesson — or two. Maybe three."
Mike Pereira, former NFL vice president of officiating (2004-09), to FoxSports.com

"If you don't want the world to think you're a dirty player, you might not want to get caught kicking an opponent and grinding his head into the ground."
Kevin Seifert, ESPN.com

"That was a half-hearted apology and he was clearly in the wrong. …The Lions need him. They can't have him suspended. The Lions are in a playoff run and you have to (rely) on your leaders to be there and play well. You can't have that."
NFL Network analyst, former Lions head coach Steve Mariucci

"He's physical, he's nasty, he's aggressive; all of those things I love. But he has to fall short of being dirty and doing ignorant things like we saw tonight."
Hall of Famer, NFL Network analyst Michael Irvin

"I know (Ndamukong) Suh. I've talked to him several times. The person and the player that we see at times, there's a disconnect. Something's going on and he needs to get to the very bottom of it to find out what it is that when someone is getting the best of him, angry Suh comes out."
Hall of Famer, NFL Network analyst Marshall Faulk

"Suh made mention of the man upstairs. While he is likely referring to God, he will likely have to worry about the wrath of Roger Goodell sooner."
Maggie Hendricks, Yahoo.com

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
