Could this be true? Could my long nightmare be over?
"You're out Rich. You're not a big time coach. Things could get rough with the moves we're trying to make against OSU and MSU.."
Michigan and Rich Rod part ways???

The guy, who really has the pick of the litter of available coaching jobs in the NFL, is Bill Cowher.

Him and Tony Dungy definately, and I actually could see neither coming back ever to a NFL sideline.

What I don't get is ESPN's insistence that if Jeff Fisher gets the boot at Tennessee, that there would be "a waiting line around the block" for his services. Bill and Tony, sure. But Jeff?

More mind-boggling: Bengals re-signing Marvin Lewis.

It would take an extreme change of heart for Harbaugh to end up in Ann Arbor, according to the person, who did not want to be identified because Rich Rodriguez is still U-M’s coach............

Doesn't surprise me. This won't please some Big Blue fans, but Michigan as a job isn't better or worse than Stanford. I mean this isn't like Kelly going from Cincinnati to Notre Dame.

The real question is, how well did new Denver Broncos Executive Vice President John Elway's pitch to Harbaugh earlier this week for the Broncos gig go?

I stand corrected. Cowher, indeed, is the top prize in the coaching game.

"Michigan is not used to this," Brandon said during his news conference about U-M's record under Rodriguez. "We need to put ourselves in a position again where we are competitive. … We need a coach who can put us in a position to win those games."

Michigan had one of the nation's worst defenses in 2010, and Brandon was asked if he has given thought to hiring a defensive-minded coach.

"There's a thought of getting a defensive-minded everything," Brandon said.

I don't know who we're gonna get. I just want to wipe that smirk off D'Antonio's face and get Tressel to stop looking so dammned unconcerned all the time...

The playoffs have not yet begun and the Steelers enter as the No. 2 seed in the AFC but the NFL already has declared them champions ... of merchandise sales.

More Steelers merchandise was sold during the 2010 season than any other NFL team, according to NFLShop.com, which counted sales from April 1, 2010 through Jan. 2.

I would love to see a Bears-Steelers Super Bowl. That would be a great game. Two blue collar-regular guy teams/cities going at it for the trophy!

Hoke ushers in new era of football at Michigan

Former U-M assistant builds tough defenses, known as strong recruiter

Other names were bigger, other candidates more enticing to fans. Michigan's new football coach is Brady Hoke, and if you're puzzled, that's reasonable.

Hoke doesn't possess the gaudiest record, but when he's introduced today at 1 p.m. by athletic director Dave Brandon, you'll begin to understand why he's here. He's here because he's been here before, he knows the terrain, and he's a good, solid coach who preaches defense and unity.

Brandon got a "Michigan Man," as predicted, and while Hoke wasn't the most coveted one (that'd be Jim Harbaugh), or the most intriguing one (that'd be Les Miles), he was the one most eager to return and most driven to fit, at a time when Michigan needs stability more than ever.

Hoke, 52, hasn't coached in a major conference and has a 47-50 career record at San Diego State and Ball State, and that will give people pause. Fine. They also should give him a chance.

Brady Hoke gets the nod

My Packers will be playin Sunday in the NFC Championship Game. Wild. Gonna be an exciting week in sports for me. Aside from that, I'll be sitting 1 row off the floor and 3 rows behind the Sixers bench at the Jazz/Sixers game Saturday night. CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Me, Bam and Don Sicilia are the only Illinoisans/Bears fans that I know of. Anybody else here a Windy City fan? How about the newbie Joey_Doves? Do you root for a certain team from a certain city known as da future world champs; Da Bears!?!

The government of Ireland wants to bring an NFL game to the county next season, and the Steelers would seem to be a natural because their owner, Dan Rooney, is the U.S. ambassador to Ireland. But talk of the game is coming from Ireland, not the Steelers.

The game would be against the Arizona Cardinals and played in the same stadium where the Steelers and Chicago Bears played a preseason game in 1997. It would be in addition to the regular-season game the NFL plays annually in Wembley Stadium in London.

Would be nice, but it would have to be an Arizona home game as they do not sell out always and a home game in Pittsburgh is too big an event to write off. The Steelers have an international following. There is actually a strong following in Mexico and South America. South Korea has a large Steeler fan base because of Hines Ward.

This has got to be a shock to the Steelers and Packers. There's several inches of snow on the ground around here and it's 18 degrees.

I think its a shock to Mike and Mike (ESPN) they were hoping to escape the cold, snow of NY for Texas weather. HA!

Let it snow. A Packer/Steeler Super Bowl should be cold with snow.

Exactly. But it won't be near as cold as it will be in GB after the Steelers shred all that cheese on Sunday.

OMG ... this is VERY sad news for me. Duke was my favorite all-time ballplayer.

I certainly remmeber him and Lou Burdette and Sandy Koufax and Warren Spawn and Ernie banks just to mention a few. Those were great players who played for peanuts and the love of the game.

A federal judge Tuesday dealt a blow to the NFL in advance of a potential work stoppage this week.

U.S. District Court Judge David Doty overruled special master Stephen Burbank’s recent ruling that the owners could use the $4 billion in television money they had stashed away as a potential work-stoppage fund should the collective bargaining agreement expire midnight (ET) Thursday .

In essence, Doty ruled the NFL violated the CBA and called for a separate hearing to assess the damages that should be awarded to the players.

Maybe they could use the $4 billion to fund research into the effects of concussions (like Dave Duerson), or long term care for the guys who can't walk anymore due to knee injuries, or the indigent, homeless,....players.
