I don't disagree that's she's still very young, but by all news reports here in the United States, the woman is DEAD BROKE. She's living off "appearance fees" at nightclubs and whatnot because she can't get bonded to work in major films anymore. But now the "appearance fees" have even dried up. She has no income. I read recently where she's earned over 8 million dollars in her young life, but it's all gone. She can probably thank her lowlife parents for that ohwell ohwell.

Holy shit you're right, I thought she had a lot more than that. According to celebritynetworth.com she's worth only a $100 grand. This is troubling.

Yeah, it's really a shame. You just know her parents helped her blow through it. I personally think they're her biggest problem.

Has anyone seen the Wolfman remake with Benecio Del Toro? It's on "On Demand" and I plan to check it out this week. Has anyone here seen it?

I saw it TIS. It hits the notes but doesn't really carry the tune, if that makes any sense. I would have been disappointed if I had paid $$$ to see it in the theater.

Thanks Lilo. I kind of thought that might be the case since it didn't last long at the theater. I imagined that Del Toro would have been a perfect choice for the part. I will still watch it (at least it's free) smile because I love the Wolfman story. smile

Yeah that wouldn't surprise me. The way they've exploited her fame is pretty sickening. Family can often be a problem and it's definitely a problem in Charlie Sheen's case as well. He can't go out for a drink without getting an intervention the very next day. It's pathetic.

Lilo,

I just saw it and that's a great way to describe it. lol The story was basically the same, Del Toro was a good Wolfman, the atmosphere almost too dark and dreary but ok I guess. I didn't mind it, but it wasn't all that. ohwell

Anyone watching the new cop show "Blue Bloods"?? Aside from the fact that Tom Selleck's family seems to solve every crime in New York City, I like the show. Selleck is still quite a handsome man and I like Donnie Wahlberg. Good storylines, decent acting. It's getting one of my "can't miss" shows.

Babe, one of me & Mrs. Mark's fave new shows as well. Indeed, it is now one of our new "can't miss" shows. I also love how the Reagan's solve every crime in NYC! Selleck is Mrs. Mark' faves going way back to Magnum days. Personally, I like Donnie Wahlberg's partner, Jennifer Esposito. Something for everyone I guess! Good acting and it fills the "NYPD Blue" void I have had for years.

I like that Nick Turturro is in it. I remember that he was the new cop back in the NYPD Blue days. Now he's the senior partner, dispensing advice to the rookie!

I loved this week's episode when he was telling the rookie how he makes his wife pasta fagioli on Velentine's Day.

Just re-watched The Shawshank Redemption the other day. Seen it many times before, but been a while since I watched it. This film doesn't age one bit. Truly one of the best I've ever seen.

They're showing Shawshank Monday through Thursday this week on AMC. It's on twice each night--8 and then 11. I've been watching it whenever I can (although I turn the second showing off at about 1:30 so I don't go to sleep too late). Every night I look forward to it like I haven't seen it in ages. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best movie ever (at least that I've seen) after the first Godfather. My mom puts it at number 1, as does Imdb.com (Shawshank has been at or near the very top on the Imdb Top 250 Movies list for more than 10 years, and it only came out in 1994).

Forrest Gump is certainly a very good, if not great, movie in its own right, but it now seems comically ridiculous that it made exponentially more at the box office than Shawshank.

Yeah that's one of my favorite lines from the movie. I really like the message of this film. The message of hope. Well, that's what I took from the movie.

The Shawshank Redemption is THE highest ranked movie on the IMDb. The Godfather (1972) follows very closely behind. As much as I like The Godfather, I would have to say The Shawshank Redemption is a better movie, as far as movie making goes. At least to me.

Has anyone seen (or want to see) "Unknown" with Liam Neesom? I recently saw "Taken" on HBO with him and liked it more than I thought I would. The previews to this one sound good. smile

HOWEVER, I have two little grand daughters that are dying to see.....Justin Beiber, so I'll be with them Monday along with all the other giggly little girls & teenyboppers. Wish me luck!! lol

TIS, my mom has Bieber fever, and it's driving me nuts! I can't tell if she's serious or just finding amusement in how it annoys me. lol

I happened to catch part of Shawshank last night - I think it's one of those where, even though I have it on tape, I can't help but go ahead and watch it on TV. Love seeing the warden's reaction to where the rock is thrown. grin

One thing I don't understand is why there's such a gap between the public and critics regarding Shawshank. While the movie routinely comes out at or near the top in popular polls (as I said, I'd put it at number 2), very few critics seemed moved by it, none seems to consider it one of the greatest ever. Why? Reading many of their reviews of Shawshank, it honestly seems like they have no soul. They say things like "it has cliched characters" etc. Even if this is true (and I'm not sure I agree that it is), so what? I don't think a movie has to be free of flaws, even significant flaws, to still be one of the greatest ever. FDR's internment of Japanese-Americans is overwhelmingly seen today as a major wrong. Yet he still appears near the top of every poll where historians are asked to rate the presidents, because his positives are considered so outstanding. And sometimes cliches are true. In his outstanding Vietnam narrative entitled "A Rumor of War," former Marine lieutenant Phillip Caputo notes than his platoon sergeant in basic training so perfectly fit Hollywood's depiction of a drill sergeant that it seemed a perfect example "of life imitating art."

And so what if Shawshank doesn't really make any technical innovations in movie making like Citizen Kane? Isn't the capacity to emotionally move people also a valid criteria for greatness? The two major classical composers were Mozart and Haydn (Beethoven is seen as basically a bridge between classicism and romanticism). Haydn was a more innovative and experimental composer than Mozart. Yet virtually everyone views Mozart as a much greater composer, because while his music may not be as innovative, it's just so much more moving and beautiful! I guess it's appropriate than Mozart was the classical composer Andy Dufresne chose to put on in Shawshank.

It's interesting that on many critics lists, "The Birth of a Nation" ranks higher than Shawshank. So a movie that (because of how it depicts African-Americans in it's second part) makes many people sick to watch today is considered greater than one which has brought tremendous hope and inspiration to millions around the world. The feelings a movie inspires in people are judged irrelevant. I strongly disagree with this way of thinking.

It's in my top 5 of all time, Vito. Not quite as high as you rank it, but it's right up there. Morgan Freeman's performance is an all-timer.

I think one of the reasons the movie doesn't get the respect it deserves from critics is because it was adapted from a Stephen King story. He's never been a darling of the critics (and don't get me started on that! mad).

I think one of the reasons the movie doesn't get the respect it deserves from critics is because it was adapted from a Stephen King story. He's never been a darling of the critics (and don't get me started on that! mad).

Sounds like Martin Scorsese with the Academy (at least until his award for The Departed).

Yeah, kinda.

I love Marty, but his getting it for "The Departed" was more of a lifetime achievment award, just like when Pacino finally won for "Scent of a Woman." Neither was even close to their best work.

To tell you the truth, I don't remember when SR was out in the theater (and didn't know it was based on a King novel). ohwell

I kept seeing it in the tv listings and wondered what was a "Shawshank Redemption"? It was only a few years ago that I actually read the description and thought it sounded good. I watched it and really liked it. It's become one of my favorites. smile

The feelings a movie inspires in people are judged irrelevant. I strongly disagree with this way of thinking.

I think much of the reasoning for 'Birth of a Nation's' ranking is that it was groundbreaking, changing the way movies were made. D.W. Griffith's use of closeups and story and character development had just not been done up until that movie.

As for Shawshank, if you think about it it DOES have cliched characters (sympathetic main character wrongly imprisoned/corrupt warden/prison rapist/loveable old guy inmate/nice young guy inmate who wants to make something of himself on the outside & ends up dead because his testimony will vindicate Andy and ruin warden's cozy setup).

BUT it's one of my all time favorites, too and regardless of all of the above the story is told beautifully thanks in NO small part to Morgan Freeman's performance and the past tense narration of his character. It was he who held that film together even more than Tim Robbins, he deserved his 'Best Actor' nomination and were it not for Tom Hanks and 'Forrest Gump', both Freeman and the picture would've received Oscars that year.

I think many would agree now that Shawshank is actually the superior film. But 'Gump' was a monster box office hit (which ALSO brought tremendous hope and inspiration to millions), and there was no stopping it or Hanks.
