I don't know about the Orioles/Yankees game getting played today. They've been calling for rain and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and evening. It's pitch dark out there now. It looks like the heavens are about to unleash it's thunderous fury at any moment.

Beth, it's pouring up here in NY, too. So unfair on opening day!

Blame it on my BIL and niece's husband. They have tickets to the game. Every opening game they've been to it's rained.

Does anyone Board member who grew up in the 50s or 60s still have their baseball cards from then? I don't have any of mine. Such a shame. They would be worth a mint.

I had a few left... I sold three of them last year (to a collector shop) for $170. They were relatively late - from 1966; one of Mickey Mantle, one of Willie Mays and one of Sandy Koufax.

I had a few shoeboxes worth of cards from the 50s and 60s. I used to put the lame players' cards in the spokes of my bike (to make it sound like a motorcycle) but like you, I wish I still had the majority of them. I believe my mother threw them out after I married and moved out. Who knew then that they'd be worth a lot of money?

Not from the 50s and 60s, but I have baseball cards from the early 80s to the early 90s. Lucky for me, I own the rookie cards of most of the major players of the steroid era (e.g. Clemens, A-Rod, Sosa, Bonds, McGwire ...). ohwell

I have all those same rookie cards DB. We grew up in a bad time for collecting baseball cards. They aren't worth anything now.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick will head back to a Kansas prison after a judge rejected an effort to keep him in Virginia to work on a new bankruptcy plan.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank Santoro denied a motion Tuesday to require Vick's attendance at an April 28 status hearing. Vick's lawyers had hoped such an order would prompt federal authorities to leave him at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail until then so they could work with him on the new plan.

Vick will be returned to the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, until he is released to home confinement late next month.

Vick is serving a 23-month sentence for a dogfighting conspiracy. Santoro rejected his bankruptcy plan Friday.

Teddy Kennedy threw out the first pitch at Fenway today. It was quite a touching sight to see him (weakly) toss the ball to ex Red Soxer, Jim Rice.

BTW - The Sox went on to win behind a great pitching performance by Josh Beckett. smile

Why don't The Nationals pack up their gear; clean out their lockers and go play golf until September.

They're just a mess.

Did any of you guys ever play your baseball cards against someone else's? I remember my brothers playing some kind of game with their friends that involved flipping their cards onto the ground, and one of the players would get to keep both cards. Was it the one that landed face up??

My brother and I played that. If both cards landed the same (either both heads or tails),he would win. If one was heads and the other tails, I'd win. The winner was the one with all the cards although we'dreturn them to each other afterwards.

I still have a lot of cards from the 70s, Schmidt, Rose, Aaron, Gibson, Carlton, Seaver, Jackson, Carew, Brett, Yaz, etc.

The Associated Press is reporting that Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett could miss the playoffs. I'll believe it when I see it after the overhyped injury Paul Pierce sustained in last year's playoffs that turned out to be nothing.

Garnett may miss playoffs

I just finished watching the memorial tribute to Harry Kalas, which took place Saturday afternoon at Citizen's Bank Park. This was only the second time that a memorial service with the deceased's casket for viewing took place on a major league ball field. The other time was for Babe Ruth.

There were moving tributes from Mike Schmidt, Jamie Moyer, Kalas' son, Kane, Gov. Rendell and Mayor Nutter among others. Near ther end of the memorial, past and present Phillies formed two lines along the firstbase and rightfield lines and passed his casket down to the line to the playing of Kalas' favorite song, "Bridge Over Troubled Water."

Having heard thousands of his broadcasts, I'm going to miss him.

its always sad when a long time broadcaster passes...cubs faced it with harrey, and so did braves with his son.

Speaking of sons, I'm predicting that Kalas' son, Todd, who has been broadcasting games for the Rays for the past 8 years or so, will become the Phillies' play-by-play guy next season.

I am not looking forward to this year's NFL Draft. There are no big-time stud QBs as in the past, nor are the RBs the caliber of a Reggie Bush or Adrian Peterson coming out of college. For example, Chris Wells out of Ohio State is one of the top rated RBs and he has had a history of injuries throughout his collegiate career. Plus with the Lions drafting #1, they will not take yet another WR such as Michael Crabtree for the umpteenth time this decade.

There's been a lot of buzz about Sanchez recently. It seem Seattle is impressed as may take him as the eventual replacement for Hasselback.

I saw Stafford play a couple of games on tv this past season, and he struck me as having everything to succeed in the pro game. I'm not sure where he'll be selected, but there have been a lot of first round qbs, who never panned out. I think he'll be a successful qb.
